My favorite regularly use B&O speaker
What speaker do you use? Mine is the Beosound A5 by Bang & Olufsen.
It was an expensive purchase — but I have no regrets.

You have to love when products generate such affection (and a desire not to create waste) that 3rd parties come up with solutions that move them well beyond the technology available when they were designed:
-
Tired: tripping and spilling hot coffee onto the white fabric grill of your floor standing BeoLab 17 speakers.
Wired: discovering that even though the fabric is "under" the aluminum surround, it is easily slid out and cleaned.
Thanks, Bang & Olufsen designers!

A real shout-out to the folks who designed the Beogram 4000 back in the early 70s.
No doubt I could spend tens of thousands of dollars and get a turntable that's, say, 15% better than the 4000. Or hundreds of thousands, and get one that's 20% better.
But those wouldn't be anywhere near as "livable" as this 54 year old technological and design wonder, which works better today than it did when it was new.
So good sounding, beautiful, and *easy* to use.

A nice review of the new Bang & Olufsen Beosound Premiere—a soundbar/system positioned below the Theatre, but it still sounds like it's quite capable:
-
TIL that the/my Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000 doesn't just detect the end of the record via a sensor (a plunger that's pushed by an adjustable metal "finger"). That's just a failsafe.
The normal detection of the end of the record is by tracking velocity. When a circuit determines that the tonearm is moving at a more rapid rate for a certain period, it knows it's the runout.
1972. Just incredibly innovative...

We Europeans all secretly aspired to being worthy enough to own anything by Bang & Olufsen once.
When I worked in Lisbon, it was one of the poorest cities in Europe. There was next to no money there at all, but for some reason, it had the fourth-largest shopping centre in Europe (Amoreiras) built in 1985.
When I was there in about 1992, Amoreiras was fairly empty of any stores and fairly empty of people, too. I don't think anyone could afford space. But, there was one single large Bang & Olufsen store in there, selling sleek design-first electronics that I doubt hardly anyone living in the city could possibly afford.
It was very odd. I should ask GPT who the customers could have been... And GPT provides my answer, after all this time.

Our latest teardown looks at yet another set of disposable earbuds. The difference this time: the manufacturer claims the batteries are serviceable even though they’re a carbon copy of their own last gen buds with non-serviceable batteries.

Just saw that Beolover has a fully restored Beogram 4000, with a brand new hood and oak plinth, up for sale.
It was fully restored, and includes both the Beolover-designed upgraded power supply and bypassable phono preamp.
Not 'cheap’ ($6999), but entirely turnkey save for the cartridge, and with a one-year warranty.
It's a great deck, so if it appeals, I can certainly recommend his work, as I've had him restore two of mine.

This "Design Appreciation" video is all about the Bang & Olufsen Beocenter 1500 from 1976.
Enjoy, because it's a shame that this video only lasts four minutes.

Well, my restored Beogram 4000 is back from its spa vacation, and it's working beautifully.
For a first play, I selected something that's relatively period appropriate - Aja by Steely Dan. This copy is one I bought in the 70s, an *original* Original Master Recording, from the Stan Ricker era. Sounds great!

I recently sent my Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000—a beautiful, working 50 year old turntable featured in my profile picture—to be restored by Beolover. Looks like it arrived safely and is in progress.
https://beolover.blogspot.com/2022/12/beogram-4000-first-look.html
Looking forward to following along as it's brought back to perfect working order! (Though it's *quite* unlikely I'll be around in 50 years to enjoy its next 50…)
