  1. Black-throated Sparrows are found all over Nevada. This feathered friend flew into our mistnets while we were banding/satellite-tagging thrashers. Since we were only banding thrashers, our bonus birds were swiftly extracted and released ... and appreciated! So beautiful. #birds #banding

  2. We were successful in capturing thrashers using mist-nets partially surrounding a prominent tree or shrub. Would you fly into this catclaw?

  3. GBBO biologists Dawn Fletcher and Lauren Harter fit a LeConte’s Thrasher with a satellite transmitter via a harness looped around the legs, holding the transmitter comfortably on the bird’s back

  5. In 2023, DTWG partners captured and tagged the first LeConte’s Thrasher ever banded in #Nevada, the first in an ongoing study examining how these nonmigratory birds use the landscape at different times of year.

  7. #Fotobubble - HILFE ! ⚠️ 🙏

Ist das noch dieses #Banding? Oder fehlt es da gröber?
Hab jetzt wieder mal abseits Astrofotos was "normales" fotografiert, kurze Belichtungszeit wegen schnellen Bewegungen.

  8. Bird banding session at Wellfleet Audubon that was so fascinating and educational. Surprise guest was a hummingbird. In the picture, zoom in and find a Baltimore Oriole nest. #birds #banding #wellfleet #WellfleetWildlifeSanctuary #audubon #orioles

  9. My flatbed #scanner, an old Canon CanoScan 8800F, had developed a #banding issue. A much brighter band in the image. I don't use the scanner often, and I have no idea what had caused it.

At first I thought that I need to start correcting that in software, should be easy, just subtract a suitable amount from the band area in each colour channel of the image after scanning. In some suitable software. Probably a single trivial ImageMagick command-line.

  10. I escaped the house to get outside earlier today; a brief visit to #Exmouth #Devon for a look at the River Exe.

I was watching some #Oystercatcher and I saw that one had rings. I reported the sighting and the Devon & Cornwall Wader Ringing Group ( dcwrg.org.uk ) were good enough to reply with the bird’s history (see the screenshot) below.

  11. Several members of my #BrassBand received their service awards at the weekend. At least 2 were 50yr awards & I'm realising I'll have to be alive & still playing at 85 to get a 50yr one 🤣

Most people seem to have started #banding as kids. I didn't even know we had a proper brass band in my area when I was a kid. I joined my 1st band in my 30's.

It's definitely a community as well. Everyone knows everyone. Until Christmas, I couldn't even organise my own deps cos I didn't know any other brass players of a similar standard... I now know the ones that depped for the other basses.

Most bands seem to have at least one married couple in them. I can't even get my husband to come to one of my concerts or contests, never mind actually learn a brass instrument & play in one.

I am basically still a baby in terms of banding, an old baby & a bit of an outsider. But my band (most bands) are very accepting & supportive & in the bandroom I feel I am one of them. Plus, I might only have been playing 5yrs (this time, I played Tuba as a kid), but I have some trophies under my belt, so that's kinda cool.

  12. Well, today in my semi incapacitated state (got a really bad cold this week), I solved the horizontal hole banding mistery.
