Bamburgh Croquet Club, established in 2008, offers a picturesque setting for enthusiasts to enjoy the game beneath the iconic Bamburgh Castle. The club boasts two full-size lawns on the castle green and welcomes players of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned competitors.
Usually the game is played in complete silence apart from the 'thwack' of mallets against balls. Relaxing peaceful. So yes, a 'Silent Sunday'....

One of the most relaxing and peaceful places we know, that brings peace to our hearts, is visiting Bamburgh Beach. When we holiday in Northumbria is it one of our 'must do' days out. Strolling along the sands, usually on a Sunday morning, brings those cat-ions fooding towards us from the sea. The sea breezes are saturated with salt and all that can be heard is the whoosh of the waves and the cry of the gulls.

Bamburgh Castle dates back to the 6th century, and has played a significant role in various historical events.
There us evidence of human habitation dating back to prehistoric times. The castle has connections to Northumbrian kings, and it was a stronghold during the Anglo-Saxon period. -

So the last Northumbrian castle I have is Bamburgh. Oh, this has a long and complicated history and I don't know most of it. It has a Norman keep though.
Also, Thomas Malory, in "Le Morte d'Arthur" says of Lancelot's castle Joyous Gard: "Some men say it was Alnwick, and some men say it was Bamborough."
