The second Ballroom walker had the most incredible hair! Unfortunately, my camera’s autofocus struggled, and many shots turned out blurry. But luckily, I captured this one that shows off those vibrant hues! #GatherRoundKikiBall #KikiBall #Vogue #Kiki #Ballroom #BallroomCulture #NYCEvents #ManhattanWest #ManhattanWestNYC #ManhattanWestPlaza #SonyCamera #SonyA7RV #Sony35mm14gm #AdobeLightroom #ShortstacheEverydayFilter

Tens, tens, tens across the board: Ballroom Hall of Famer, model, and singer Carmen Xtravaganza, a leading light of the legendary House of Xtravaganza still beloved for her turn in the groundbreaking 1990 #lgbtqia documentary "Paris Is Burning," has died of lung #cancer at 62. http://www.obitpatrol.com/2023/08/carmen-xtravaganza.html #arts #music #drag #DragIsArt #TransIsBeautiful #lgbt #obits #ballroomculture #obituaries #restinparadise #rip #deaths #whodied

@toddo I would highly recommend reading more about Black Ballroom culture and other gay/queer subcultures. While their voices are largely missing from the public record, due to racism, some internal resources still document a lot of their history. (Some of which is happening right now). HIGHLY suggest the photographs of Teenie Harris, a Black, Pittsburgh photographer who documented Black urban life at the time, including Ballroom.

Tragically, #VenusPellagattiXtravaganza was #murdered at the age of 23, and her murder remains #unsolved. Despite her untimely #death, her #legacy as a #trans #icon and her #impact on the #BallroomCulture have endured. Efforts have been made to honor her memory, including designating her childhood home in Jersey City as a historic landmark and developing a #documentary about her life.
