Always poignant if you tour through wee villages in north-east #Scotland like the ones on the route the Queen's coffin took from #Balmoral you find all the memorials to their war dead. Some are stone monuments, others quiet plaques on hall/church walls. The loss disproportionately affected these rural areas as a significant percentage of menfolk never returned.
