Continuing south on Crenshaw Boulevard, you cross Vernon Avenue and then Slauson Avenue, entering what’s broadly called the Crenshaw District — another term with soft edges, sometimes used interchangeably with Leimert Park, sometimes distinguished from it. The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza mall, one of the first shopping centers in the country built for a Black consumer base, anchors this stretch and has itself gone through waves of disinvestment and reinvestment.
