In a TV interview this week, President #Balcázar affirmed that it was his predecessor, José Jerí, who took the decision to opt for the acquisition of 24 F-16 fighter jets from the #USA, rejecting competing offers from French and Swedish firms. He claimed that Jerí decided unilaterally to buy only from Lockheed Martin, rejecting rival bids from Dassault (Rafale F4) and Saab (Grippen E/F).

President José María #Balcázar this week questioned Chilean President José Antonio Kast’s decision to erect a deep ditch along Peru’s southern frontier to deter future immigration, likening the erection of such barriers to that of the Berlin wall. He is reported as saying that it was Chile’s decision but he urged the need for care in “returning to the times when the Berlin wall was constructed”.

#Balcázar changes his prime minister after only three weeks #Peru #Regierung
The cabinet that lasted three weeks was replaced on 17 March with the virtual certainty that Congress would refuse a motion of confidence. Prime Minister Denisse Miralles resigned the day before the vote was to take place, replaced as prime minister by a retired army general, Luis Arroyo Sánchez. The new cabinet will also need to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days.
