I’ve just experienced my first rotten egg while baking 🤢. Of course this was the one time I didn’t break the egg into a separate bowl before adding to rest of the ingredients 🙄. I’ve cleaned up, almost finished retching at the mere thought of it and prepare to start again. I am scared to crack the next egg.

Tried to make a cake from scratch and ended up with a burnt cookie

I fucked up my (oven baked) donuts. I failed to fully read the directions and left out the sugar. Problem slightly solved by rolling them in melted butter and confectioner sugar but grrr.

Snuck a few posts in over the last week, but they were all failed pies. From the start of the project, failed bakes were included, simply because not everything goes according to plan. Mistakes happen and should be accepted. But, at some point, I realized I had been phoning it in for various reasons and wrote about it.
To quote Lazarus Lake: “You can't accomplish anything without the possibility of failure.”

Getting in a nice groove of resurrecting an archive post every three days….
This was the first major fail of the project was a strawberry pie. Part of me suspects strawberries changed over the last century, that older varieties were smaller, denser, and contained less moisture. Anyway, it was still tasty, even if messy.

One baking fail, one success 😜
Left my sourdough out for too long and it fermented too much. Still tastes very good.
The cake is a Guiness cake. The cake is not a lie!

Sigh...was halving a recipe for enriched dough for experimental buns and didn't halve the yeast.

First #bakingfail of 2024.
Kinda Hilarious 😂
'Make your own jam croissants out of puff pastry rolls' they said.
'It will be easy', they said.
They were very, *very* wrong.

I call them lemon desperation bars because, after baking I realized I left the sugar out of the filling (credit an engrossing audiobook). I desperately tried to salvage something by drowning it in glaze.
Also, you'd have to be desperate to eat one.

I still have no clue why the caramel failed, but there is no mistaking it when it crystalizes. We ended up going with a different tart tatin recipe, it's funny but the cooks illustrated baking book failed us with not enough illustration in the recipe #bakingfail

So, two weeks ago I found a recipe that looked promising: orange caramel cardamom cake. I put together the spring form pan and went ahead. Caramel leak out the bottom. It was a mess, but the cake itself had promise. I googled how to fully seal springform pan with parchment and remade it last week. Caramel ran out the bottom. Last night’s version (in regular pan since a reread of recipe saw no mention of using springform🤔) looked good. Then realised oven was on broil . . . #bakingfail

My grandmother left me two recipes for a Lady Baltimore cake. I tried one today and it was an absolute nightmare. I am not sure anyone is going to eat this thing. We will see how it tastes—but I am not optimistic. I’ll post photos when I get over being annoyed about it. #baking #bakingfail

That cake I made that one time... (I have done better, both before and since but sometimes it's just not your day.) #bakingfail #blobfish

Recipes that call for bringing 2 sticks of butter to room temperature by leaving on the counter only 15 minutes, obviously do not know that I keep my house at temperatures equivalent to the planet Hoth.
2 days would be insufficient time to warm sticks of butter to the temperature necessary for baking...
