Holy crap I hate macs. There is no option (only terminal, I searched afterwards) to turn off the annoying sound that plays when you plug the charger in ! I just woke a baby up with it. Ghouls.

Without a doubt, the shittiest laptop I have EVER used is a macbook. Completely disrespects privacy. A greedy bluetooth that stays on even when the lid is closed, and is always eager to connect. I wish I didn't have to use this piece of crap for work :(

Ugh. Reporting another anti-pattern from apple. Here is a screenshot.
Clicked on an epub file, and macos automatically opened this software. Cannot close it. Obviously you can kill it with some sort of a system monitor, but not through the software's normal UI.
Then I looked at the settings. This software sends all your data to apple engineers so they can know you better. What a disgrace.

macos has to the shittiest UIX I have ever used. Worse than DOS.
1. There is no predictability regarding how windows are attached to desktops.
2. There is no real rule to when a software is truly killed instead of being minimised to dock.
3. The menu bar up top is absolutely hideous and useless. And of course, it fails at the most critical moments because the UIX is so brittle.
T_T Can't wait to not have to work on this POS browser machine made for babies.
-
Does anyone else have their apple machine reboot on them willy nilly? My air m2 does that after I have been afk for a while. Instead of waking from sleep, sometimes it just decides to restart. Obviously forgets all the windows and the desktops they were assigned to.
So frustrating. It's such an absolute shitshow of an OS. I wish I didn't have to use it for work :(

Any XQuartz users on here ? I've been using it with x2go. Every time I move to a different workspace, the window disappears and is really hard to get back...
Any XQuartz users who have managed to make sense of this UI ? Apple UIX so borked and dysfunctional :( At least I can go back to a linux box at work through XQuartz. Oh wait, no I can't...
-
So the ordering of frames in macos desktop overview is just nuts. I have found no workflow in which it makes sense. Am I missing something here ?
I know their UIX sucks, but I refuse to believe it is this bad!

T_T As I swim against the opinionated shite-current that macOS is, I can't help but rant.
What if you could make macOS work like you want it to, rather than it 'just working'.
The obsession with frictionlessness creates more friction, especially for anyone who doesn't belong to the browsing and webdev segment of users (which I guess is the intended demographic).
Very competitive hardware. Marred by a dysfunctional OS :(

Interesting. So zoom held my login hostage until I updated the software to whatever idiotic form it has morphed into now. I was late for the meeting, and zoom started showing an unasked for AI, UI-element that I can't get rid of. Data-theft by holding your communication hostage.
Is there a way around this situation? Some modded version of the software?
-
Lawdy lawd. I am trying to make a presentation deck in keynote (work...) and I cannot believe that macos does not have scroll-wheel zoom when using an external mouse. Hands down the most inconsistent and hardware-locked pc I have ever used - probably by design. What an unscrupulous company that forces users to buy their hardware by limiting productivity.
-
So while lecturing today I was plugged in via HDMI and my sound refused to work. Obviously, I had to get on with things, and made a large hall full of students listen to the tinny speakers on this air.
Coming home, found this : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254736333?sortBy=rank&page=5. Apparently it's a known issue for more than 18 months. What a POS company and software considering the price =.="
Can't wait to not have to use this garbage for 'seamless' integration with colleagues.
-
Is there a nifty way to clear the extra icons macos keeps adding to the dock ? More importantly, is there a way to exit the software when I close an instance ? On a limited, low-RAM device like this it makes no sense. Only abets data theft by companies like Adob e and MS.
So many idiotic UIX decisions without switches. It is clear to me that this hardware and software was designed by someone with no intention of doing any serious work.
-
Ok, so who here travels with an apple machine ? Hopefully you don't use the clock on your system.
I hadn't realised that macos doesn't allow changing time-zones without a terminal command that issues an error (but changes the time-zones) !!

As I always say, macos is an OS for show. No attention was paid to real functionality. Rubbish.
Stop basing design and UIX on this system. Substance >> Show.

It's time for another #macrant !
Just found out that desktops cannot be renamed in macos.
Prehistoric.

How does one delete or hide the music program on a mac ? It pops up every time I connect/disconnect my earbuds. Extremely annoying - especially because I don't even use the damn thing.
Today I was relieved to find that many longtime mac users also find it annoying - but they have learnt to 'live with the inconvenience'. Buy an expensive, overpriced machine and learn to live with bad UIX.

Question: has anyone been able to use their apple macbook air as a dockable machine.
I dock the machine at work and use a second monitor through a dongle. When I get home, I can't mirror to my TV. Seems like the display server is stuck.
I have been trying to restart the display server but there is probably no official manual for this idiotic os.
Has anyone had similar problems ? Any idea how to make it behave ?

Just discovered this. macos does not support window tiling ? !! There must be some twisted logic here and I'd love to know more about it.
Every day I use this system I am more confident that it was designed by someone really into 'ricing' up their system - like me, when I was 15 and into gaudy primary colours and swooshing windows effects.
What a waste of computing power.
-
So, like, macos update on an m2 chip machine broke screen sharing. This is hilarious and frustrating. I guess once they've paid for the machine, it's the user's problem.
-
How do I make macos not obsess over my bluetooth, even when it is "asleep" ? And why does it park all my software in the dock even when I'm not using it ? And why does the idiotic music software pop up every time I connect my headphones ? Any many other UIX catastrophes that must be endured because of lab policies T_T
-
A question for longtime macos users: Is there a way to launch a new instance/window of a software from the dock by default ?
Right now my whole screen does this horrible swoosh across desktops to an already open instance of the software.
Absolutely horrible UIX - infantile, gaudy, and mostly dysfunctional.
Seems like an OS designed by an ignorant showman to sell the appearance of a functioning system, rather than an actual functioning system.

So my android phone suddenly started transcribing my calls in real time and I had no idea how to make It stop. It then started translating the text on the screen, once again, without my permission. What's going on ? Is this an OS update ?
Whatever it is, it's unsolicited and forced upon the user. What a nightmare.
