Dear #KLM, why in the universe do you want me to scan my passport using my computer webcam a week before my flight? What kind of info do you need that is not already provided by my full name, date of birth, and passport number?

This is why we need #tech literacy. This recipe site wants you to pay $2.99 USD to “print” the recipe.
To print. The recipe. That’s literally on the web page. For free.
Super+P and “Save as PDF.” You’re welcome.
Wut? Am I missing something?

Interesting. So zoom held my login hostage until I updated the software to whatever idiotic form it has morphed into now. I was late for the meeting, and zoom started showing an unasked for AI, UI-element that I can't get rid of. Data-theft by holding your communication hostage.
Is there a way around this situation? Some modded version of the software?

My apple machine is unable to maintain a stable wireless connection to my TV (pronounced audio lag). Today I decided to give up and just connect via a dongle (another idiotic apple intermediate) and HDMI. Now I have a strange audio stutter that just doesn't go away.
A little more digging and it seems like it's a 3-year old bug. My disappointment in programmers and computer-savvy people who recommend apple continues to grow ...

1/ After much hullabaloo and insistence from multiple folks, I finally caved in and decided to see if the newest ChatGPT offering can actually do some sensible coding.
TLDR: If going from point A to point B is all you care about - go ahead and knock over those 100s of litres of water so you can copy/paste the inefficient, probably outdated code.
No alt-text, but the task is detailed in unlisted chain-posts.

So while lecturing today I was plugged in via HDMI and my sound refused to work. Obviously, I had to get on with things, and made a large hall full of students listen to the tinny speakers on this air.
Coming home, found this : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254736333?sortBy=rank&page=5. Apparently it's a known issue for more than 18 months. What a POS company and software considering the price =.="
Can't wait to not have to use this garbage for 'seamless' integration with colleagues.

Is there a nifty way to clear the extra icons macos keeps adding to the dock ? More importantly, is there a way to exit the software when I close an instance ? On a limited, low-RAM device like this it makes no sense. Only abets data theft by companies like Adob e and MS.
So many idiotic UIX decisions without switches. It is clear to me that this hardware and software was designed by someone with no intention of doing any serious work.

An extremely worrying development for anyone who cares deeply about technology. It continues to be driven down a path that is both socially destructive and morally repugnant.

We are extremely visual creatures, and we are choosing to destroy the planet to fool our senses.
Here's a thread analysing generative art used for an election campaign. All they want is an illusion of art, not art.

They know nobody will notice because nobody really looks at these images. We are choosing to waste many many gallons of water running a large statistical model when a simpler poster would have suffised.

Do you know what pause-screen advertising it?
I just learnt about it. What a repulsive concept. A dishonest way to bite off yet another chunk of our waking hours so we can be sold useless things.
Adverts on your phone lockscreen ? Adverts every time you pause a video ? Unless you pay the ransom (subscription) of course.
Disgusting.

Laptops with AI, phones with AI. Products are being engineered so the hardware is LSM (large statistical model) friendly. This is alarming.
It reminds me of so many SiValley grifts like everything-as-subscription, smart devices, etc. The process starts benign, dependence for basic services is created, and then the user-as-product model is deployed at scale.
AI/LSM integration into basic devices are the setup for the next big rental and data-theft scams.

Ahahaha. Well done apple!
I have just had to make a really tough call: whether to use mouse+keyboard, or mouse+storage, or keyboard+storage. This is amazing. WWYD?
My display has usb ports, but obviously they are not picked up by macOS (the Debian machine picked them up just fine...).
The storage is non-negotiable because I'm working with large datasets (shocking, I know, that one would try to work on this toy-machine).

The amount of people that look at me as if I lost my mind when I launch in essentially the same rant is astounding. Don’t people think anymore or have they just given up.
Most tech companies getting rid of their ethics departments (if they had one) doesn’t help as well.

I've come to the conclusion that the bane of my existence, the one thing that may cause me to pop a vein and die, is the fraking so-called clipboard built into Windows.
Look at the laptop wrong and the clipboard loses whatever you copied to it. Why are the contents of the clipboard hidden?
If physical clipboards worked this badly, we would have abandoned them for something better a long time ago.

Sainsbury's in Truro has been working hard on adding pocket dimensions to its ground level parking. I really would like to know how they do it 🤔
(Seriously though, if you know what likely software vs sensor vs configuration error that's going on here, please give me your theory in the replies. This has been going on for months but the photo is from today.)

Not the advice I would expect from Awair on a day like today. With PM2.5 being at over 400 outside, opening windows does not strike me as a good idea.

Melancholy day in spite of the sun shining. I think a nap is on the schedule for today (as well as a massage). The new laptop work sent me still doesn't work correctly.
