pretentious

born from the academic marriage
of Theory and Art
by postmodernist professors—Derrida!—was our watchword!- -
But perhaps #poetry is really
the last daisy petal, small and simple,
white yet wrinkling,
falling silently to the dirt.
Perhaps poetry is meant
to be felt
as we all feel
the fading of summer into autumn,
while the drying daisy petals
stand as browning tombstones
to "summer," to "time;" to "cycles."
Perhaps poetry is meant to be shared
around warm fires in the winter
to remind us
