#BadPicsOfFood as we were out and about, we stopped for lunch at a hotel overlooking a harbour and marina. Typically, I had the seat with my back to the view so my mum could have the good one... But the garden I was looking out at from the 'conservatory' area of the restaurant was very nice too.
As for the food, it gets a thumbs up from me.
Mum had a turkey, ham and vegetable pie, baby roasted potatoes and onions in rosemary, some peas and carrots. The pie was huge and filled to the brim.
I had some sticky honey and mustard sausages, and some welsh cheese covered chips... and the sticky sausages were delish.
The prices were reasonable as well. The meal for two, along with a large orange juice and lemonade, and a J20 drink was only £37.
We are spoiled for choice in this area... Almost anywhere you go with 30 miles or more, will have plenty of locally run cafes and eateries and there are hotels, restaurants and take away joints all over the place. Good food at reasonable prices everywhere you go, and often with a stunning view to look at whilst you eat.

#BadPicsOfFood had to nip out for milk and a few extras to see us through to the end of the week, whilst builders are in... there's 5 of them and consume a lot of tea. 😆
So whilst I was out at lunchtime... i grabbed some good old fish and chips for lunch.
That's 1 large portion of chips and 2 pieces of cod... and there's far too many chips.
A dollop of mayo and a dollop of ketchup on either side of the plate and some vinegar and sea salt on the chips.

#BadPicsOfFood I've not done one of these for ages... But it's Sunday and I fancied a brunch.
So here we have some hash browns, baked beans, scrambled eggs on half a toasted muffin, some streaky bacon that's not as crispy as I like and some caramelised onion sausages.

#BadPicsOfFood time again.
It's my mums birthday this week, and she wanted to take some treats to her pensioners club on Thursday.
So we have... a couple of sponges back in a tray. One cooked on the top shelf, the other in the middle... hence the huge difference in colour.
A nice thick slab of brownies, and about 30 small sausage rolls.
The sponge will be done with a ricotta and icing sugar cream cheese filling and either strawberry or apricot jam, and then sandwiched together.
Gotta have something for up to 30 people apparently. There's easily enough sponge and sausage rolls for a small slice of cake and one roll each... the brownies... needed twice as much but didn't have enough ingredients to do another batch. In hindsight, we made the brownies far too thick. Could have removed 1/3 of the mixture, and then we'd have had enough to make a up the extra for that 2nd batch... Oh well... next time I'll know and will make enough to do a larger tray bake like the sponge.

#BadPicsOfFood or... #FuckMeThatLooksTasty
Decided to go out for the afternoon, weather was nice and it's bank holiday. Plus my mum hasn't been out for a few days as her foot was hurting her.
Stopped at a place that sells locally made, luxury donuts... So much choice. I had a chocolate icing glazed, hazelnut creme filled one (2nd from lower right).
My mum chose a cherry bakewell filled one.
Must have been 30 varieties to choose from...
Very tasty, very rich... almost sickly if you tried to eat too much. Just one of them was a struggle and almost too much sugary goodness to handle.
After that popped to a retail park for a mooch around some shops for half an hour, then took her along to a marina for a stroll along the harbour.
Stopped for some fish and chips on the way home.

Whilst today is a shepherds pie.

#BadPicsOfFood time once more
Made some pork meatballs the other day, and had a load left over. So I cooked up a tomato, bacon and mascarpone sauce, chopped up the meatballs and threw them in, and cooked up a load of pasta... sprinkled some grated cheddar over the top because I had no mozzarella or parmesan. -
#BadPicsOfFood today was a bit of a sunday roast.
Sliced roast chicken breast , filling a yorkshire pud, sxage and onion stuffing, cauliflower cheese with a sauce so thick you could carve it. Honey roast carrots and parsnips, marrowfat peas and of course. roast potatoes.
All smothered in gravy.

#BadPicsOfFood time... A bacon and brie sourdough baguette... with a decent splooge of HP sauce.

Me as a kid: Can I get a bacon & egg McMuffin
Parents: No, we have that at home
Me: Cool...
Because the bacon and egg muffins I learned to make at home are so much better... dry cured oak smoked bacon about 5mm thick and a splooge of ketchup along with proper butter on the toasted muffin... and no plastic cheese.

#BadPicsOfFood time again
Some sliced roast chicken, in gravy filling a large yorkshire pudding, with roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots, stuffing and peas.

#BadPicsOfFood time, an afternoon treat selection.
A small piece of red velvet, maderia cake along with a shortbread cookie.
Coffee is also involved.
Sugar rush incoming... sugar crash to follow shortly after.

#BadPicsOfFood A deconstructed shepherds pie
Basically, cooked all of the mince up in the slow cooker for 5hrs along with a load of veggies... Boiled the potatoes, mashed them... and couldn't be fucked to assemble it into a dish and put under the grill to crisp up the top of the mash.
Chuck it in a pasta bowl and #NomNomNom

How's your morning going?
Mine started with dull grey skies and damp.
Then at 11:30, the sun came out... the solar was reporting it was generating 3.5kw of electric.
So I thought I'd get out on the bike for a ride to the coast.
Got my bike out, realised the tyres needed pumping up... that means starting the car and getting out the mini compressor as it's the only one I have right now.
Once I'd done that... the coffee I'd had 2hrs earlier decided now was the time to take effect....
So finally... 15 mins after getting the bike out... I finally got on it... and it immediately started raining.
So I put the bike away, came in and cooked a sunday brunch instead.
Honey & mustard sausages, oak smoked streaky bacon, beans, eggs and hash browns.

#BadPicsOfFood Well... that was delicious.
Had this cheese & ale bake thingy in the fridge that was at it's use by date. It comes in one of those little ceramic dishes, you bake it and dip stuff in it... a little like a fondue I guess.
Also had some ham that needed using up, and a couple of slices of sourdough left that was going a little stale.
So, I put the cheese bake in a small saucepan to melt it down, added a little extra butter and grated cheddar, plus a tea spoon of dijon mustard... and let that warm through and melt together.
I toasted the sourdough, poured the cheese sauce over the bread, placed some of the ham on top and fried an egg to go on top of that.
It was bloody tasty... the cheese sauce doing all of the lifting, the bread providing some crunch and the yolk some gooeyness.
I guess it's a combination of Welsh rarebit, a croque madame and croque monsieur.
Maybe next time, put the ham on the bread, pour the sauce on top and then pop under the grill for a few mins to put a crust on the sauce... then put the egg on top.
That's what I call a successful experiment.

#BadPicsOfFood time again... It has been 7 days since my mum has been pretty much confined to bed with gout.
She's on the mend... but as I'm doing everything and with my cooking skills and limited palette... It's been mostly quick and easy meals with nor much veg for the first 4-5 days.
So today, I cooked up some leftover turkey from xmas, some diced bacon, onion, mushroom and made a casserole on the hob in the large stainless steel saute pan... made up some cheesey dumplings and popped everything in the oven for about 30 mins. I cooked up some veg on the side, marrowfat peas for me, sugar snap peas and tenderstem broccoli for my mum.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time... not cooked a brunch in a couple of weeks.
Went all out on the quality too.
So we have pork and leek sausages, dry cure smoked bacon, hash browns, beans a slice of fried sourdough bread (done in wagu dripping) and a free range egg.

#BadPicsOfFood time once more.
Was originally going to do this on Sunday... but forgot to get the chicken thighs out of the freezer.
So, there's a couple of small bacon wrapped thighs, crispy seasoned roast potatoes. Honey roast carrots & parsnips, marrowfat pease, stuffing and of course... gravy.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time gain.
A jacket spud with what is effectively a cottage pie filling.
So that's minced beef, carrots, peas, onion and parsnip cooked with, plenty of stock and seasonings, I also added some red lentils to thicken for the first time (was given a tip)... I don't like lentils, but they literally dissolve and thicken. But that also made it a little bland, so some extra seasoning was required.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time again, the most unhealthy meal I've cooked in ages... and if you've seen some of the meals I cook... That's quite the achievement.
So we have a home made thic crust pizza with a meat feast topping of pepperoni, ham and beef. Ran out of mozzarella, so it's mostly mature cheddar.
the garlic bread was a bit of a mess, I just mixed some garlic puree and herbs with some salted butter, cut some lots in a part baked sourdough baguette and cooked that in the airfryer.
Then made up blue cheese and BBQ dips.

#BadPicsOfFood again.
Continuing the quick and easy meals theme... because we are running out of fresh food stuffs and relying on the freezers... So fresh veggies and potatoes have run out... there's a few onions and some brussell sprouts left... I will only eat the onions, the brussells can rot in hell.
So yesterday, i remember that when I made all of the sausage rolls at the end of Nov... I also made a large sausage plait.
Defrosted that yesterday, we had a few baby roast potatoes and some mash left over in the fridge.
So everything went in the oven for about 40 mins. Added some grated cheese on top of the mash to crisp it up. Opened some baked beans and made a little onion gravy.
I'd forgotten the filling for the sausage plait... turns out it's pork and apple.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time again, the quickest roast you'll probably ever be able to cook.
Had some chicken thighs, just seasoned them with a rub, placed on a tray, put some seasoned baby potatoes on the tray next to them... only washed and cleaned them up, then a little bit of oil, salt and pepper. On another tray, some carrots and parsnips, again put in the oven raw and seasoned with honey, salt and pepper. Added a couple of stuffing balls onto the tray too as we had a little left over from yesterday (exact same meal)
Everything gets put in the oven at 190ºC for about 45 mins.
No prep time today, because we did this yesterday and had enough left over to do it again today. Had to cook the chicken thighs because we bought them reduced and froze them... Can't refreeze them uncooked.
Quick, cheap and easy roast dinner.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time... let the nibbles and buffet foods be brought forth for consumption so that we may not haveth to cooketh any grubeth.
We didn't even open half of the stuff we bought, there are sausage rolls in the freezer that I made a couple of weeks ago, the cheese and garlic tear & bread remains frozen... and we didn't open the stilton, the mini cheddars the other packets of crisps.
We won;t buy much we said... we're away for xmas. But might have family coming over for new year... Nope... just the two of us for a few weeks.
So.. there's some chicken and ham pork pie, some extra crispy chinese battered chicken, some roast ham, some cheddar and brie, a couple of slices of sourdough bread, some cheeselets and some sticky pork glazed crisps.
-
#badpicsoffood time again.
Christmas pie, leftover turkey, gammon, stuffing and pigs in blankets, cooked up with the thickest gravy... With a puff pastry top, served with air fried roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips and some cauliflower cheese.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time once more.
Tonight offering, a nice chunk of rump steak, marinated in some maggi and cracked black pepper, then fried in a stainless steel pan in garlic and butter to a perfect medium rare, then the pan was deglazed with a little extra butter and mixed up with all of the meat juices and crispy bits stuck to the pan... covered the steak with the onion, then drizzled some blue cheese dressing over the top.
Some onion rings and crispy fries on the side.
-
#BadPicsOfFood today was cumberland sausage, smoked dry cure bacon, hash browns, baked beans and fried eggs.
With a big dollop of a fruity brown sauce in the middle.
-
#BadPicsOfFood time once more... todays attempt at a decent meal...
Lasagne and garlic bread.
Almost... almost... got it out of the dish and into the pasta bowl in one piece. Alas, the top started to slide off.
As for the taste... delicious.
I suspect there may be a fight for the last portion this weekend.

#BadPicsOfFood once more... today's offering is a shepherds pie with a crispy cheesy crust.
