Reuters on Meta: “The company is facing a cash squeeze and investor scrutiny due to its dizzying AI spending, heightening the pressure to find savings. Meta plans to invest at least $130 billion in AI chips and other infrastructure this year, which analysts expect will eat up its operating cash for 2026, estimates from LSEG show.”
That is, throw more capital at AI rather than at working smarter. So typical of AI-hype. Purported new structure nor the thinking behind it very revolutionary either; swapping one rigidity for another with fewer staff & everyone “agile”. Meta did not “make available” anyone from within who Reuters wanted to interview. Reuters did a good job reporting given the difficulties of getting information.
Some good memes in the Reuters article too, like “Let them eat Snacks” poking fun at a recent notorious Meta product & the snack quality being improved to palliate the stroppy workers (how patronising, hope everyone who can gets out unscathed).
