I really think this could be huge. Both sides of it. The decline of our ability to do law enforcement, and the increase of accessibility of all communications to any sufficiently rich bad actor (including semi-beloved countries transiently run by autocrats.)

In this important paper, the amazing work done by Dimitri (and coauthors) shows that it is possible to integrate #fuzzing into traditional CI setups, to successfully detect backdoors sneakily inserted into public code commits. #opensource #supplychain #security

WordPress Plugins Compromised to Deploy Hidden Backdoors
Over 1.2 million WordPress sites are potentially at risk after a security breach compromised three popular plugins, allowing hackers to secretly install backdoors and gain admin access. The sneaky attack injects malicious code that only kicks in when a logged-in administrator visits the site, putting unsuspecting site owners in the dark.

I blame DRM: the artificial market segmentation of DVDs being “region locked” led to much “free market” backlash from civil society; but now we have:
- Signal ignoring interoperability & threatening to exit the EU because of ChatControl
- Apple withdrawing ADP from the UK because of “TCN” backdoor demands
- Apple withdrawing Siri AI from the EU because of “interoperability” demands that backdoor *everything*
…yet somehow the latter is “bad” and the former two are “good”? Can we please have some consistency?
