Did my first backcountry skiing today. Thanks to plenty of recent snowfall, I started almost literally in my backyard.
Being good at going down will take a loooong time, I barely managed the local trails and logging roads.

No #running today, instead I went on a short #SkiTour with my wife up our "house mountain" #Patscherkofel.
Nothing too fancy, just a nice day outdoors without the usual crowds that populate the ski resorts.
And also a nice test for my new #Garmin #ForeRunner955, which I got for Xmas 😎 Unfortunately, it didn't record the ascent correctly (only 479m instead of the ca 1200m). Need to find out why before I use it for #TrailRunning

The slide wasn't very deep. The crown is maybe a foot tall, but it ran a good long way and it wouldn't have been a fun ride.
While the rest of the slope was stable, this spot was pretty clearly ready to go because of wind loading coming over the top. I'm grateful for my friend's spidey-sense that we were in a risky spot, and grateful for good terrain choices on our skin track up. The slide came close, but never ran over our track.

We did one lower run (not super skiing, breakable crust 🤮) and then three of us decided to head up further and climb one of the peaks since the skiing wasn’t great.
As we hopped up on the shoulder, my friend who was cutting trail had a funny feeling and asked us to hang back a minute while he crossed under a slightly steeper slope.
