A subject in KidsPlaner stores one colour, and the app has two appearances. Navy reads fine on white and becomes a dark mark on a nearly black tile.
So nothing draws the stored hex any more. Every rendering asks for a legible version, which resolves per appearance and mixes the colour towards white or black until it clears the luminance threshold for that side.
The colour picker keeps the stored colour. It answers which colour this is.
