  1. New video drop :) Back roads into Monte Rio, California. This is part 1 of a 3 part series so make sure you subscribe :)

No music in this one, just nice relaxing engine and wind sounds, very relaxing to have playing in the background. :)

  3. Northumberland County Back Roads | Photo Gallery

This covered bridge acts as a gateway to a tour of back roads in little-known Northumberland county in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The well-maintained, red covered bridge with bright yellow warning signs stand out against the rich greens of the spring foliage. The gravel track visible through the bridge portends the relaxed adventure as it winds away into the forested hills.

  4. Rainy Road Trip to NEPA | Photo Gallery

The fog clings to the trees as the spring rain prepares the ground. Nature in the background juxtaposed with the dirtiest form of freight hauling in the foreground. It's like Mother Nature weeping and nourishing and grieving all at once.

  5. I've been out in the hills doing deliveries for a change and I came upon these relics on the way back down a valley.

History is around every corner out here.

  7. We Need to Talk About the National Park Service

We need to talk about the National Park Service. What it does. What it costs. And what gets lost when an administration decides public goods are soft targets.

  11. Went a different direction from my normal maintenance ride routs - stumbled on some more old ghosts. This house just gave off a creepy vibe from the moment I laid eyes on it. When I rolled up in front of it, I got an overwhelming feeling to not come any closer.... so I didn't.

  16. #SilentSunday
At one of many free #wilderness #RecreationalSites on the #AliceLakeLoop #backroads route.

I prefer backroads sites to staffed, groomed camping sites. There's loads of awesome recreational spots all over #VancouverIsland. The more isolated spots are on the East Coast & North Island. South Island spots are nice too but they get far too busy for me to enjoy in warmer months. Many spots in North Island are still fairly empty, even in mid-Summer.

  18. I found countless amounts of #rusted #iron pieces scattered all through the forest & there was lots on the beach below too. I thought it was bark at first but when I picked some up - found out it's iron & not from trees.

We were bummed to see this frozen #BlackTar pool, it was the largest one - amongst many smaller #TarPools & #tar puddles. You could smell the yucky #toxic scent before seeing them.

  20. I don't know what these two huge pieces of #industrial #machinery are or what they were used for. There's really no info provided at the site to help identify the old abandoned things that you see there. If you know what these are, please educate me - TIA!

We decolonized a BC government sign before leaving the site. We saw many toxic black tar pools, all across this abandoned coal mine site.

  22. #Suquash was the site of the first #CoalMine on #VancouverIsland. It still has lots of cool ruins & abandoned #mining #industrial machinery in the middle of the forest & on the beach below. It's very isolated & you'll likely see no one else around, if you go. It's just slightly north of #PortMcNeill town centre.

I often take friends here, when visiting North Island because the site has many different elements. The forest has a section where multiple trees were split down the middle by lightening strikes. New trees, plants & fungi are growing out of the burned out trees. The beach is full of prehistoric fossils of ancient marine animals. It is well worth a day visit. Follow flags to avoid getting lost there - it's easy to lose yourself in dense forest, if the site is unfamiliar to you. Carry a big stick & poke the ground before walking ahead - to avoid falling into hidden sinkholes.

The site still needs environmental clean up. There's still lots of black, greasy, toxic water that bubbles up from underground. The government only put up danger signs but they've otherwise abandoned this site.

  24. Why My Live Streams Are Part of Adventure Adjacent (Not a Detour)

Too cold to wrench, too busy to travel. Here's why live streams (trucking, hunting, etc.) still count as Adventure Adjacent, and how they keep curiosity warm.

  25. How to Expand Your World Without Leaving Your Zip Code

Expand your world, close to home: back roads, small details, and William Penn’s reminder to pay attention. Slow down and notice small stuff.

  26. Part of the area by one of my fave & free #backroads #wilderness #camping & recreation spots in #Ditidaht territory. The backroads in both the North & South #Cowichan areas have several fantastic recreational camping sites which are free to stay at - zero amenities so you need to be prepared to pack in what you need & pack it back out. I like the backroads spots better than fully maintained & easier to access sites. I rarely see anyone else near me when camping at backroads sites.

  28. In the late 1870s an Englishman, Harry Pye, had a contract to haul freight to the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. He found 'float' (silver) while evading raiding parties. He built a little cabin (now vacation rental).

He never 'struck it rich.' In fact, his mining career ended before it began. Pye was about 10 feet into the prospecting project when he was ambushed by a band of Apache, led by Victorio. When Pye drew his gun, it jammed.

  29. #Backroads on #DididahtTerritory.
This is part of the #SanJuanRiver & forests in the valley. The #watershed area is under ongoing #ecological threats by industrial #clearcut #logging. This is near #CarmannahWalbran #BritishColumbia provincial park.
The forests here are longtime foraging, mating & birthing grounds for the #CowichanValley Roosevelt elk herd. The San Juan is an important salmon bearing river. The old growth forests here are home to several #SpeciesAtRisk & #EndangeredSpecies.
There is ongoing eco activism work to try & protect more of the forests & #waterways in this #wilderness valley on Southern #VancouverIsland.
