I refuse to be the model minority and I won't give up to demands that other Babkans be either.

We enforce the rules we have (I wrote them) but won't give in to keyboard bullies who insist that we be all be polite, that we align with a certain political movement, that we don't express our pain, that we aren't religious enough, that we talk about Judaism too much, that we talk in certain ways, that we respond to demands of loyalty pledges, that we are too sexual, that we're not sexual enough, that we're too Queer, that we're too heternormative, etc.

As long as you follow the rules, you're allowed to be authentically Jewish in whatever way speaks to you on Babka Social.

I'm on #BabkaSocial and I like it here. If you click the hashtags you will find a few times where I have gone in-depth on specific aspects, but here is a quick summary.

• Babka.Social is for Jews and Jewish Allies to have a space where they can feel safe.
• Besides being predominantly Jewish, is run by and holds, an unusually high percentage of people who are LGBTQ+, have disabilities, and are on the spectrum.
• Defederation is taken seriously. As a smaller server, that means weighing harms vs benefits.
• Our admins and moderators collaborate with other minority-led instances to help with best practices.

I'll let others from Babka speak up on other aspects I might have missed if/when they see this.

One of my favorite things about #BabkaSocial is how often somebody gets kind of adopted as an honorary member.

One of us interacts with them a few times.
Then another does it once or twice.
Then every other post of theirs is on the TL and we Fav-bomb every post.

I absolutely love this about us.

Just checked in on this #fediblock, and the account in question, which the admin of emacs.ch insisted was properly chastised about harassment and would face more consequences if he continued, has basically devoted a significant portion of his account to posting about #BabkaSocial and linking the same users who blocked him in the first place.

As expected, emacs.ch has decided they are a platform for continued harassment because it is "Cancel Culture" to ask them to moderate a user who is openly flouting their posted rules.

One thing I love about #BabkaSocial (besides the great people on it, of course) is that every time I work around a defederation, instance block, or instance mute, I regret it.

The moderators have done good work to keep this gross, awful stuff away and it's generally my own damned fault if I see the revolting stuff on rolling around Mastodon.

Hear hear!!

Heads-up to anybody who is following me: I blocked @[email protected] weeks ago because of his dehumanizing and exclusionary behavior towards Black Jews and giyur. Many others on Babka did the same.

He apparently is bypassing these blocks to continue misrepresentations. At the end of the day, I will be blocking every account that follows him. Anybody who wants to be unblocked can message me.

While Serge never explicitly says Babka is going to use ActivityPub or be part of the Fediverse, it's pretty clear that's part of the plan.
As I understand it, the idea is to either be part of the Fediverse temporarily, until the site grows, then defederate, or just be another island on the Fediverse with its own unique code.
Either way, I'm interested!
