❗️Seligman Community Update
The fire house is now operating as a Red Cross station. Supplies are expected to arrive by tonight. We will also be open as a warming station overnight for anyone in need.
Communication Warning:
We have been notified that cell tower backup batteries have approximately 1 hour remaining in Seligman.
Cellular service is expected to drop soon
This means 911 calls may not go through reliably.
⚠️ Important:
Your phone may still be able to connect to another carrier for emergency calls, so 911 might still work—but do not rely on it.
If you have a newer phone, satellite texting (such as Emergency SOS via satellite) may still function, though it can be slower and requires a clear view of the sky.

Seligman Fire District (8 hours ago)
"✅ 15:18 — UPDATE: I-40 has reopened in both directions, but continue to expect delays while the queue clears.
⚠️ Update at 12:10 - APS on site. People are out of vehicles and safe.
‼️ Interstate 40 is currently CLOSED in both directions at milepost 126 near Seligman due to a serious accident involving a semi-truck and downed power lines last night.
A semi has struck transmission lines, resulting in multiple live power lines across both eastbound and westbound lanes. At this time, Seligman is experiencing a power outage related to the incident.
DETOUR INFORMATION: All traffic is being rerouted via Route 66 to Crookton Road. Please follow posted signs and directions from on-scene personnel.
CURRENT RESPONSE:
* Fire crews remain on scene
* Occupants of a different semi are currently trapped due to live power lines on the vehicle
* Utility crews are en route; however, power must be shut off before extrication can begin safely
One patient was transported to the hospital for non life threatening injuries.
APS estimates it may take several hours to de-energize the lines and make the scene safe. They have multiple crews coming from Phoenix.
This is a developing incident. Updates will be posted as more information becomes available." -
Oh wow, this is going to suck. Possible mass desert stranding of people with no gas. And because the cell phone towers are out, people aren't going to get that WEA messager.

"...As the temperatures soared to 105 degrees on Saturday in Phoenix, Ariz., the third-straight day the weather has topped the 100-degree mark, more than 400 people attending an airshow in nearby Glendale were treated for heat-related illnesses, authorities said.
At least 25 people attending the Luke Days Airshow at Luke Air Force Base were overcome by the sweltering weather and had to be hospitalized for various heat-related illnesses..."

This all-sky/fisheye view of the sky is very unusual for New Mexico, especially during monsoon season.
Monsoon skies often feature lots of convection, cumulus clouds against blue skies, towering thunderstorms, localized rainstorms.
This sky is a uniform gray.
Tropical storm Lorena is pushing a solid layer of clouds into this region.
It's also pushing a plume of moisture that's causing a uniform, steady, slow rainfall. The weather radar image shows how different that precipitation pattern is compared to the localized afternoon monsoon pattern of thunderstorms is over Arizona and northern New Mexico.

NPS: "Interagency Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) teams from the Department of the Interior (DOI) and US Forest Service recently completed field data evaluations to produce the Soil Burn Severity (SBS) map for the Dragon Bravo Fire. This map field-verifies the accuracy of burn severity categories (unburned/very low, low, moderate, and high) from satellite images and helps estimate post-fire risks, such as erosion, sediment washing into streams, increased stream flows, and the chances of debris flows. ..."
