Te Hiku Media trained an AI model for Te Reo Māori transcription to digitise the thousands and thousands of hours of archival footage.
Peter-Lucas, @keoni, and their team developed their first model in 2016 that had an 86% accuracy rate when transcribing Te Reo. They decided that wasn’t good enough (despite commercial models being only 50% accurate), and since then have been training better models.
They have built ethical, sovereign AI from the ground up. It’s possible. And they have proved it.
