  1. Perhaps there's a lesson here for us old grups.

"We presented wild jackdaws (Corvus monedula) with a novel social information problem using automated feeders. Juveniles could always feed (simulating a situation where juveniles were sources of information about a new resource) but adults could only access food if they inhibited their tendency to displace juveniles and instead showed tolerance by occupying an adjacent feeder perch. Accordingly, adults learned to tolerate juveniles, with some evidence they generalized across juveniles as a cohort. The ability to learn to tolerate sources of valuable information, and generalize across cohorts of informed individuals, may facilitate adaptive responses in the face of environmental change and help to explain the success of jackdaws in human-dominated environments."

  2. "We found American robin (Turdus migratorius), House finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), and House sparrow (Passer domesticus) nests across two sites: a tracking array and a fixed array. Results showed that robin nests in the tracking array exhibited significant architectural adaptations, including taller nests and greater variability in attachment angles, likely to enhance stability as panels moved throughout the day. Additionally, nests in tracking arrays experienced warmer thermal conditions than those in fixed arrays. These findings suggest that generalist bird species can adapt to nesting in dynamic, human-modified environments, modifying their nests to cope with structural movement and thermal changes."

  3. "Across 1520 species of birds, higher temperatures are associated with longer wing bones, as predicted by Allen's Rule... we interpret the positive relationship between temperature and wing-bone length to reflect increased demand for heat dissipation in warmer climates. Our findings highlight the role of thermoregulation in shaping even the most critical features of vertebrate anatomy."
