Here’s a new one. It rained last night and the neighborhood junkies stole our trash bags. They dumped out all of our garbage on the sidewalk and stole our fucking trash bags. We figure they didn’t target our neighbors cuz they use shitty small white and pink bags and we use the big black ones. What a horrible fucking shitty messy thing to wake up to.

AVI is the awesome new video format and encoder, that is royalty-free, open-source, and backed by the likes of Google, Netflix, Amazon and Apple. Anyone is free to use it, with no catches, no strings attached.
Now there's a new very simple easy to use Desktop encoding app called "aviator"

So I have hundreds of videos of ~1 minute recorded from my phone ~10 years ago, and they generally don’t have that great compression, nor they are stored in a modern and advanced video format.
For archiving purposes, I want to take advantage of my workstation’s mighty GPU to process them so that the quality is approximately the same, but the file size would be strongly reduced.
Nevertheless, compressing videos is terribly hard, and way more complex than compressing pictures, so I wouldn’t really know how to do this, what format to use, what codec, what bitrate, what parameters to keep an eye on, etc.
I don’t care if the compression takes a lot of time, I just want smaller but good looking videos.
Any tips? (Links to guides and tutorials are ok too)
Also, unfortunately I am forced to use Windows for this (don’t ask me why 🫠), but I know nothing about Windows because I hate it. Practical software suggestions are very much welcome, too!

Ein paar alte Filme die irgendwo auf irgendeiner Festplatte vergessen wurden.
Vermutlich wurde auch vergessen das die Online stehen.
Immerhin sind Blockbuster wie Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters und Euro Trip (Der Film erklärt warum wir nie nie nie wieder nach Berlin fahren und wie der Papst gewählt wird!) mit dabei. Das die Qualität von anno dazumal ist brauch ich wohl nicht zu erklären aber einem geschenkten Gaul..... Ihr wisst schon. -

Wigderson is the Herbert H. Maass Professor in the School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Prior to Wigderson's contributions, it appeared quite plausible that randomized algorithms might be qualitatively faster than deterministic computation for many fundamental problems. For example, efficient algorithms for finding large primes - a computation essential to modern cryptography - use randomization.
In a landmark series of works, Wigderson and colleagues proved that,
under standard and widely believed computational assumptions, ⭐️every efficient randomized algorithm can in fact be fully derandomized. ⭐️
In other words, randomness is not necessary for efficient computation.
These results revolutionized our understanding of the role of randomness in algorithms, and the way we think about randomness more generally in mathematics and computer science. -
