Three tracks in and it’s classic country mixed with Patton’s dense-but-wide-open production and so far it’s pretty good.

I so wanted to like the new #avettbrothers album better than I did. Their last album was terrible.
The new one is fine, feels like them, has some good songs, but not the usual high-quality songwriting we’ve come to expect. It could grow on me but first impression is less than stellar.

New Avett Brothers! "Love of a Girl" is the first single from their upcoming self-titled album dropping 5/17. Rick Rubin is producing once again.
I'm encouraged, as it's uptempo and rockin'. I say this because their last album (Closer Than Together) was shockingly bad. For a band that's consistent and always has a few great songs on each album, the last one was abysmal. So here's hoping they've regained the magic.
