AKA what if Angel turned into a bird-man and didn't just have wings?
Roy Thomas does like his bird people...

070 - Hawkeye
The cardback bio conveniently leaves out his brief detour into super-villainy before joining the Avengers.
I feel like the West Coast Avengers needed more "doing stuff around recognizable LA landmarks."

069 - War Machine
Solid card. Jusko manages to get a good expression out of a metal face plate. The color splatter also helps the central figure pop a bit despite being principally silver/black.

I'm sure this will end well for all involved...

The full page 8, featuring the Avengers West Coast & Namor!
Both Tiger Shark & US Agent's cards work better in this context. Love Splice just hanging in mid-air.

Card 072: US Agent
Love the facial expression, don't love that it looks like he's peeking around the corner of the card, with half his body obscured.
-
Card 071: Tiger Shark
Love when old school characters like this sneak into these sets.
I like how it almost looks like Tiger Shark is scared of the splashing water.

Card 070: Namor
Like DD, too big a character to be left out, too small to carry his own page.
I get wanting to get "Sub-Mariner" in at a time when his book was titled "Namor" but "DYK this character's codename?" cracks me up
-
Card 069: War Machine
Interestingly, the first appearance is citing the debut of the #WarMachine armor, not Rhodey.
Given its whole deal is that it's Iron Man armor wextra guns, it's funny that the art highlights the usual repulsors.
-
Card 068: Wonder Man
Given the presence of Splice and the fact that its drawn by his series' artist, this is almost more a Wonder Man page than a AWC one, so it seems apt that he's "center square".
-
Card 067: Iron Man
Perhaps nothing in this set is as "of the moment" as this DYK fact, presenting as fact a status quo that lasted a relative five minutes (it was like 10 issues, but still) and is barely a footnote today.
-
Card 066: Splice
All I really know about this guy is that he's a villain from Wonder Man's solo book, which means his name is probably a movie-related pun (as in "splicing film"), which means he's awesome by default.😄
-
Card 065: Spider-Woman
I'd ding the DYK fact for stating one of the defining things about this character but she's not that mainstream, so it gets a pass.
Less forgivable given that, is not speaking in any way to her powers

Card 064: Scarlet Witch
New page: Avengers West Coast, w/art from Wonder Man artist #JeffJohnson!
Still in the waning days of AWC, so Wanda remains classically-attired.
Not anymore, Did You Know Fact, not anymore...
