as a lad I visited the UK and saw a SCART connector for the first time. A startling revelation to a boy used to mustard mayo keychup RCA cables.
I was amazed at how devices could control each other via SCART. Flip on the BetaDeck, and the TV flips on. I wouldn’t experience HDMI CEC until decades later when it became common.

Just discovered my old middle and #highschool #AV clubs have really grown. When I was in highschool they did a weekly school wide #announcement style show. Now it looks like they produce #shortfilms, and #podcasts, and #news on #YouTube. Really warms my heart to see these little #Appalachian #kids learning and expressing themselves.

#AVClub has become incredibly poor-quality ever since its shitty private-equity owner moved it to LA. Even so, I still scanned it daily.
Recently, an update has added some buggy JS that causes the page to go all-white after a few seconds in my browser. It's a reason for me to finally give it up (though I still find my fingers absent-mindedly going "<cmd+t> a v <enter>" too many times a day).
Farewell AVClub. You actually died 5 years ago, but now I'm finally letting you go.

For twenty years the AV Club was one of my favourite sites on the web, the content, the writers, even the comments were solid gold for pop culture geeks like me.
Then they got bought up, fired all the cool writers based in Chicago and moved the office to LA where they clearly never replaced the quality of the content and now the place is an AI ghost town.

@moviestvposting since I’m the kind of person who reads old AV club comments from 2010 I came across this in the review for Breaking Bad Season 2 Episode 4? Maybe 3 but i think it’s 4.
Anyways, Jesse has always been my favorite character (so far, I’ve got a season and a half left unfinished but tbh I don’t see any other character usurping him at this point) and this comment really gets to heart of exactly why I like him so much

There must be thousands of covers of #Chumbawamba's "Tubthumper" out there, but this one by #TheyMightBeGiants for #AVClub is really something else.
The #avclub review of #hisDarkMaterials season 3 has me *very* excited. I was worried that the writers may pull their punches, theologically, in the last act but this review suggests not.
There's a lot going on in the book, and I actually hope they chop out a fair chunk of Mary Malone's side-quest, as it really dragged for me.

Sony Watchman I rescued from a thrift store a few weeks ago. I don't presently have my VHF/UHF broadcasting stuff set up, so instead I connected an antenna directly to the RF out on my SNES, hence the weak signal.
