Chevreuil Release New Track “Tartarus”

French rock duo Chevreuil announces its return with Stadium, a double album set for release on April 24, 2026 via Computer Students™, marking the end of a twenty-year hiatus. The announcement is accompanied by the release of the first single, “Tartarus,” along with a video created by Dutch artist and designer Bas Mantel.

Chevreuil is the French rock duo of Julien F. and Tony C., formed in 1998 after the two met three years earlier at an art school. From the beginning, they approached the idea of a band as a performative art installation — a self-contained, sculptural device for sound, space, and motion rather than a conventional rock ensemble. Julien and Tony, respectively, in their parlance, play “magnetic drums” and “magnetic guitar,” an analogy for their livewire, one-on-one chemistry, where the music seems to fall together by way of natural forces.

Rejecting the addition of a bassist early on, Chevreuil built its music around reduction, repetition, and architecture. Tony’s guitar runs through four amplifiers arranged around Julien’s drum kit, creating a quadraphonic field that surrounds the players. Julien’s 1976 Ludwig kit — built the same year both musicians were born — is never amplified, allowing the group to perform anywhere so long as there’s a single outlet for the amplifiers. The result is both physical and spatial — a minimalist engine of rhythm and resonance that behaves as much like an installation as a band. 

With Stadium, recorded in January 2025, the duo retains its core principles (live recording, quadraphonic immersion) while expanding its sonic palette through a reconfigured guitar — a true hybrid electro-acoustic engine generating electronic textures. The single “Tartarus” exemplifies this evolution with a distinctive structure in which electro-acoustic textures intertwine subtly and progressively around a minimalist and powerful drum performance.

The stop-motion video, composed of black-and-white images reworked from archival materials, analog and digital collages, created using a photocopier, a fax machine, and a computer, extends this exploration. It stages a magnetic, cosmic universe that closely interacts with the track’s sonic structure.

Conceptually, the album draws on the music of the spheres, magnetism, radioactivity, barometric oscillations, astrometry, and magic, using these ideas as lenses for exploring vibration and transformation. Each side of the double LP contains four pieces, forming parallel sequences that can be heard as two separate albums or a single continuum.

It is available as a standard double 12″, 180-gram HQ, 33rpm vinyl edition housed in a reverse-board, 6mm-spine gatefold sleeve. A Deluxe edition — matching the same core specifications — adds a 12-page codex that provides full technical transparency, documenting the band’s complete recording configuration, including all parameter settings and specifications. This version is presented in the label’s trademark sealed aluminum sleeve with black print. CD, cassette, and digital formats will be issued in their most unadulterated form. A limited colored-vinyl edition in a Type-1 aluminum sleeve is available exclusively through the Computer Students™ website.

Monolithe Noir – La foi gelée LP

If you’ve been keeping up with my scribblings here at Thoughts Words Action, you know I have a deep-seated fascination with artists who treat an album as a living, breathing ecosystem. There’s something special about music that refuses to be put into a tidy little box. Today, we’re heading to Belgium to look at a project that has been consistently pushing the envelope of what experimental really means. I’m talking about Monolithe Noir and the latest full-length offering, La foi gelée. This is a massive, lounging, and deeply intimate journey that sits perfectly at the intersection of melodic obsession and emotional sonic exploration. It’s an album born out of a period of intense transition, moving cities, becoming a parent, and grappling with the heavy weight of grief, all while trying to find a sense of brightness in the shadows. What immediately strikes me about La foi gelée is the sheer ambition of the instrumentation. We’re used to seeing the instrument vs. machine divide in a lot of modern post-rock, where you either have a rock band or an electronic producer. Monolithe Noir completely ignores that line. The soundscapes here are incredibly luxurious, crafted by merging layers that shouldn’t necessarily fit together but somehow form a perfect, cohesive whole.

A comprehensive collection of guitars, keys, and synthesizers act as the foundation, but then you have the organic, weeping textures of bowed strings, violin, viola, and cello that elevate the record into a cinematic experience. There are moments that evoke the frantic pace of a city chase and others that feel like a slow, nocturnal crawl through steep, foggy alleyways. The addition of field recordings adds a layer of found reality to the music. It makes the experience feel grounded and documentary-like, which makes sense given the artist’s recent work in audio documentaries. It’s as if the sounds of the world have bled into the studio, blurring the lines between art and life. While the Monolithe name might suggest something static or immovable, this album is remarkably dynamic. A huge part of that is down to the rhythm section. On this record, the bass truly asserts itself as the ruling instrument. It’s thick, prominent, and carries a melodic weight that often leads the way through the more chaotic experimental sections. Paired with excellent, organized, and unpredictable drumming, the rhythm section provides a much-needed balance. It keeps the avant-garde tendencies from drifting off into total abstraction, giving the listener a pulse to hold onto while the synths and strings swirl overhead. It’s this interplay between the organized and the unrestrained, making the album so rewarding on repeat listens.

But the vocal performance is one that shines in the limelight. This is easily the most sung project in Monolithe Noir’s catalog to date. The soulful, passionate, and deeply emotive voice slips quietly into the mix like another instrument, while in others, it stands fully upfront, raw and vulnerable. There is intimate storytelling acting like a confession. Even when the music addresses heavy themes like loss and mourning, there is a brightness in the delivery, a sense of finding the love and meaning necessary to keep moving forward. The album unfolds like a mountain range. You find yourself climbing through intense, frantic peaks before decanting into murky, half-soothing, half-unnerving baths of sound. It’s a record of gates, each track feels like an invitation to step further into a world where you aren’t quite sure if you’re moving forward or backward. There’s a central piece on the record feeling like the heart of the entire project, condensing all these themes of grief, fatherhood, and creative rebirth into one spot. It brings together a whole clique of musicians to create a massive, orchestral sound that pays tribute to those who swim toward the open sea without looking back. It’s a brave way to make music, losing oneself in the craft so the listener can do the same. The shift toward saturated guitars and more prominent bowed strings gives La foi gelée a different ambiance compared to previous works. It feels more human and tactile. It’s krautrock in spirit, that relentless, motorik drive is there, but it’s dressed in the clothes of post-punk and avant-rock, with a heart that beats with the sincerity of a singer-songwriter.

If you are a fan of experimental rock that actually has a soul, this record is a must. Too often, experimental is used as a shield for music that is cold or distant. Monolithe Noir has done the opposite. This is a warm, breathing record that invites you in, even when the subject matter is difficult. It’s a marvelous release for anyone who digs the rhythmic depth of krautrock, the atmospheric tension of post-rock, and the intellectual curiosity of avant-rock. It’s the sound of a craftsman at the top of his game, drawing nourishment from his surroundings and turning his personal history into something universal. Belgium has always had a knack for producing these kinds of genre-blind artists, and with La foi gelée, Monolithe Noir has firmed its place at the forefront of the scene. It’s an album that demands your full attention, and trust me, it earns it. Whether you’re navigating your own emotional mountain ranges or just looking for a record that pushes the boundaries of what a solo project can achieve, this is the one. Grab your headphones, find a quiet space, and let yourself get lost in the fog. You might not know where you’ll end up, but the journey is absolutely stunning.

Drôtenky's Album uses the theme of false lights – lights appearing in folk superstitions that lure people to the swamp at night – as a metaphor for confronting liars and manipulators: "Liars can look straight into the eyes – as long as the deceived look down, until he looks away."

The Drť team was founded in 2019 on the initiative of Miroslav Tóth. He has since released four studio albums. The group will perform live in a new line – up, presenting material from the current album Drôtenky (Lowbottomy Records) - the intense, condensed sound of a four-piece band. Alongside the vocals of Zuzana Husárová and the baritone saxophone of Miroslav Tóth, we will hear Jan Faix on keyboards and the drummer Marián Leskovski, also known from the band Shibuya Motors. Drôtenky's Album uses the theme of false lights – lights appearing in folk superstitions that lure people to the swamp at night – as a metaphor for confronting liars and manipulators: "Liars can look straight into the eyes – as long as the deceived look down, until he looks away."

Ravage – Ravage

Ravage’s self-titled debut is an uncompromising work of art, a furious conversation that takes place at the volatile intersection of noise rock, avant-rock, and post-hardcore. Formed by three tireless composer-improvisers, Anthony Laguerre on drums, Bastien Pelenc and Mathieu Werchowski on violins, the trio has engineered a fully organic, cinematic, and feverish soundscape. This is a restless band, defined by its appetite for destruction that somehow takes exquisite care of the textures and emotional space at stake. It’s a debut that dissolves boundaries, offering a blueprint for a world open to emotion, adventure, and convulsive beauty. To even begin to understand the architecture of Ravage’s sound, a listener must start with the foundation, the exceptional drumming performance laid down by Anthony Laguerre. He is the anchor, engine, and often the primary harmonic force of the record. This is a dynamic control in the best possible way. Laguerre maintains a breathtaking level of intensity with continuous splashes over the cymbals, creating a constant, shimmering texture that feels like static electricity running beneath the surface. It’s balanced by the sharp, physical impact of powerful snare hits and deep, punchy bass drum beats that drive the music forward with primal force. His use of accentuations over hi-hats and cymbals turns the rhythm into an ever-evolving story, giving the often-abstract soundscapes a commanding, dynamic pulse. The drumming is the physical manifesto of the band, lending the music its heavy, powerful core.

But the dual violin performance elevates Ravage LP into an otherworldly soundscape. In the absence of a traditional guitar or bass, Pelenc and Werchowski shoulder the entire weight of the sonic spectrum. Their violin interplays are the source of all drama and color, delivering melody and harmony, but also the cacophony, experimentation, and sheer virtuosity. The eight strings become chameleons, capable of creating moving, almost romantic themes one moment, only to twist them into grinding, serrated edges of pure noise rock the next. Ravage delivers music designed for deconstruction and reconstruction. The album is a vital artifact for anyone interested in the fringes of heavy music, a record that takes the raw kinetic energy of noise rock and the intellectual curiosity of experimental rock and forces them into a beautiful, volatile chemical reaction. This work ethic exemplifies their belief that in the absence of a new world, art can still carve out a space open to emotion, adventure, and convulsive beauty. Ravage LP is not an easy listen, but it is an essential one, carrying a deeply rewarding dive into an utterly unique and terrifyingly brilliant sonic space. This is excellent material for all those into experimental rock music, a definitive statement from three tireless pioneers.
