i was also wondering if when #AV2 comes out, it would bring with it new version of AVIF. my guess is *probably not*. VP9 didn't bring a new version of WebP, or at least not a finished one.
i'm guessing with (typically) one less dimension to compress video codec advances just don't bring the same rate of improvement to still images. maybe AV3 will give us AVIF2.

Новые видеокодеки моментально улучшают жизнь миллионов людей. Тем не нужно прикладывать практически никаких усилий, разве что обновить железо или софт. После этого видеофайлы магически уменьшаются в размере, качество картинки становится лучше, видео в интернете перестаёт тормозить и т. д. Например, новый видеокодек AV2 уменьшает трафик на 30%. We will see h.266 (VVC) adoption because AV1 isn't a full replacement for it
AV1 is designed for streaming media. At high bitrates it will start to perform worse. I doubt it can outperform h.264 at Blu-ray bitrates.
Cameras and phones will record to it that means you're going to want a hardware h.266 decoder because software decoding is not looking too hot and I don't know how much it can actually be improved.
Maybe AV2 will finally be a full replacement

@james There is a standard for ethernet over powerline. It's called #Powerline or #HomePlug #AV2. Also, the reason they use data-over-powerline is that it removes one level of complexity. The devices no longer need a #wifi adapter to work. For instance, in the #US some cable routers (#COAX into the home, then #ethernet to the wifi #adapter) also provide that ethernet over #Powerline.
If the wifi adapter dies or breaks, the internet is still available to #Powerline devices.
