Heute habe ich Restic kennengelernt und muss sagen, das ist kein Tool für mich. Aber mit Autorestic sieht das ganz anders aus. Alles via yml-File einzurichten, das hat schon fast Spass gemacht.
Und so hat Autorestic nun auf meinem Homeserver Duplikati abgelöst. Ist also sicher einen Blick wert.

After procrastinating for way too long, I have finally set up regular backups of my laptop and achieved the 3-2-1 strategy 🙌

But the reason I was procrastinating this is because I couldn't decide on a good #restic wrapper! And, to this day, none of the options appeal to me

- #Backrest can't do stdin, --keep-within-*, and passwords from command
- #autorestic can't do stdin, and scheduled check/forget
- #resticprofile is too complicated and has a different mental model

Thanks to @packit for helping me bring the latest version of #autorestic to @fedora. 👏

This is a much easier method for running restic for backups.

@cryptgoat Unless you want to be writing your own backup scripts, you should probably compare the higher-level backup software that wraps each of #Restic and #BorgBackup. For instance: #autorestic and #borgmatic.

And I tested my backups, needed to restore one file. It works ;D

Remember: doing backups is only partial success, you need to make sure they work and you can restore.

I switched my backups to restic[0] using autorestic[1] wrapper.

It's working for a few weeks already and I'm pretty happy already.

Also I'm testing it with B2 BackBlaze storage as one of the backends to send data. It's cheapest (at least from ones I checked) and should fit my needs.
