What do you mean you did not see it? It is a Bus and you just crashed into it!
Tesla has reported its Robotaxi fleet in Austin, TX has been involved in 14 incidents (crashes) since its launch in June 2025.
Looking at the #'s, the fleet likely reached around 800,000 miles by mid-January 2026 - that works out to one crash every 57,000 miles. The average American driver experiences a minor collision every 229,000 miles and a major collision every 699,000 miles. Er go, Robotaxi's are crashing at 4X for a regular human driver.

Bottom line: it is far easier to collect vast amounts of data from vehicle sensors than to use it, store it or transmit it. The amount retained today in consumer vehicles, if any, is very small. A conditional #AutomatedDriving system (likely described by "hands-free, eyes-off" which is not part of the official SAE #J3016 terminology by the way) seems entirely incompatible with the concept of "driver assist".
I really hope to see a detailed safety case here - and one should be demanded by regulators anyway, you know, hypothetically in the US.

The first thing to recognize is that, as a partial #AutomatedDriving system, the vehicle is not "driving itself" at any time.
Even while the automated system is active, the human driver is (effectively) providing the *exact same* amount of control input to the broader system as if the automated system did not exist at all.
It may not *appear* to be the case, but it is - per the very system definition.
System control is broader than what can be physically seen.
