  1. @chris Attribution is hard and increasingly pointless: do we really need to know which sad little king in the new authoritarian axis of evil paid for the op that benefited the entire #AutocracyInc.? Or is it enough to know that the dictators are all working together and helping each other undermine democracy and human rights everywhere?

  13. A book that will make you think and look at the world with new eyes. Also, at least for me, forces me to consider many assumptions and influences - take nothing you hear, read or think for granted.

At the end of the day I think we all know the difference between right and wrong, what is fair or unfair, and our “spidey sense” tells us when things are off.

The bad guys spend a lot more time thinking about how they win than we all think about protecting ourselves.

The U.S. might continue to support Ukraine (who can say), but that shouldn't stop internationally operating oligarchs from doing each other a solid. #AutocracyInc #RussiaIsATerroristState #Oligarchs #Corruption masto.ai/@socprof/113959122899

The historic prisoner release from Russia was thanks to the diplomatic work of a group of democracies to free over a dozen people from the autocratic regime of Vladimir Putin. Anne Applebaum's new book, "Autocracy, Inc.," examines how autocracies are gaining power, and what they’re doing with that power. William Brangham sat down with Applebaum to discuss more.
