If your Autistic child, friend, partner, family member, etc seems "dramatic" due to their routine being disrupted, they're not. It is truly world breaking for them when it happens. It feels awful. And it isn't their fault. Have patience, and take it a step at a time.

Don't like the infinity as a symbol for autism? Maybe because it's too much like the Métis flag? :metis_flag: Or maybe because the symbolism doesn't vibe with you?

I've been on a recent quest for an autistic pride flag that I actually like. I showed some draft designs to friends and discovered none of us actually liked the infinity symbol for autism 😯.

So, I got to thinking about alternative symbols. I think flags and the like are an opportunity to tell outsiders about what we’re about. One thing I want to convey about being autistic is that the autistic spectrum does NOT mean a gradient from autistic to non-autistic. Here’s a visualization I like:

So I got to thinking about how to visualize that polar graph. I realized a nautilus shell works on a number of levels!
1. To convey the polar graphs in a stylized way
2. A fractal shape keeps with the theme of infinity
3. We autistic folks tend to live in our metaphorical shells =)

Best as I can tell from google text & image searches, the nautilus is not used by any minority groups or geographic regions for flags. A handful of businesses and software projects have nautilus logos, and I've tried to stay distinct from them.

Attached are - two flag designs using the rainbow nautilus, and two versions of just of the nautilus icon if you wanna stick it on other things or refine it. I'm releasing these as public domain so remix as desired! 💛

Autistic Pride Day is coming up! Here's four new autistic flag options \o/

I've put together some autistic-specific pride flags because too many autistic-specific flags fall into one of two pitfalls:
1. using a solid white infinity symbol - the Métis (a major Indigenous group) have been using this as their flag design since 1815 :metis_flag:
2. using a solid yellow background - this is an intersex flag thing :sensory_intersex_flag:

Here are some alternatives I've made that don't do either! 💛

1. Golden infinity loop on white background. I took the golden infinity off the 2023 Autistic Progress Pride Flag and stuck it on a white background in the style of rainbow-infinity-on-white-background neurodiversity flags. Gold is used for autism because Au=Gold. (I'm not sure I'm the first one to do this design.)

2. Replacing the infinity on the red-yellow-green flag. I took the 2021 red-yellow-green autistic flag and replaced the solid white infinity symbol with a red infinity loop. Red is another common autism flag colour used as a contrast to the blue of Autism Speaks (bc fuck Autism Speaks).

3. Recolour the Disability Pride Flag to make it autistic. Remember how Au=Gold for autism? Let's just go all in. This has gold (Au), titanium (Ti), sulphur (S), titanium (Ti), and carbon (C) for an AuTiSTic colour palatte.

4. Golden infinity + Disability Pride Flag. Sticking the infinity right on the disability pride flag was too busy so I moved the stripes to the corners.

Seeing as it’s #AutisticPrideDay today, I’m noticing a few puzzle pieces / support for Auti$m$peak$ flying around (mainly on the bird site) which have a history with ableism and are routinely rejected by #ActuallyAutistic people.
