Time is more than a clock. It is neurology.
ADHD often causes time blindness. The concept of time simply splits into "now" versus "not now."
Autistic individuals face autistic inertia. Changing tasks creates intense friction.

"Autistic Inertia" borrows a basic law of physics.
A body at rest stays at rest. One in motion stays in motion.
Starting a task demands massive executive energy. Stopping requires the exact same effort. Task switching physically exhausts you.

The survey for my partner's PhD research on #AutisticInertia has already done quite well, although there have been no new responses in the last couple of weeks.
It closes at the end of tomorrow (31st March), so if you would like to contribute your experiences to this research, here's your chance; click the link to get started! https://www.qualtrics.manchester.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_bJl0HjTghBcg71Y
(The "do it now principle" sometimes works for some of us who experience inertia...)

There was a morning as I distinctly remember waking up & it being morning.
Somewhere in between get up, sorting my hair, moisturising, finally fixing a not functioning pCloud app on the PC & going to sort breakfast it changed to being the afternoon.
This is how my plans for my days just get shrunk down & the guilt trip that I now don't have the time to do half my things is a spoon (& probably dice) thief.
Will keep plugging away at somehow being more useful in the AM but it's going to take some time.

I've heard of #AutisticInertia mainly in the context of starting or switching tasks, but I wonder if it could apply to environments too. One thing I've found is that every time we move flat, I find the flat hunt the most stressful part because I have to *invest* in the potential new place we apply for. I have to see myself living there & I start imagining how my life will change to accommodate it. And until the contract is signed, I'm all nervy because my new reality might shatter at any moment.

Trying to shift into work mode, with no success so far.
Not even work-work. Fun-work.

Was supposed to spend time before supper relaxing, maybe watching a movie but once a task gets in my brain, and as long as my brain marks it as, "hey! I can Frelling do this! 😃 " it will insist on doing it or at least spending as much time & dice (spoons) on making progress towards the end goal.
Result: No pre-supper chill out, Tomorrow's schedule needs rearranging as I am soooo watching a movie with supper!
Just the perks of #AutisticInertia

@theautisticcoach ‘Morning’? What’s that? 😉
(I do sometimes get up in the morning these days, but not often by choice)
Whatever time of day it is when I summon the energy to drag myself out of bed, getting showered and dressed (etc. – or sometimes just dressed) takes an unpredictable amount of time
I can do it in 15 minutes
More often, whether because of Autistic inertia or not yet having taken ADHD meds, it can take much longer: I’ll get distracted in the middle of getting dressed, or even just sit on the edge of my bed for ages doing nothing

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic
Usually until about 2 hours before I should really be thinking about getting some sleep :/
Meds I'm on don't help in that regard.
