  1. Another case of #AIslop #fake books at #Amazon: travel.yahoo.com/guides/italy/
It's not the only one, it's not the first fake author. And all these pseudo-books are made of stolen content. Many are published just to earn money from people who are unaware of the problem. Amazon is not always reacting so "quick".

  3. AI companies fiercely defend their own IP while helping themselves to everyone else’s. The Atlantic argues copyright infringement isn’t a side issue in the AI boom — it’s central to their business model

  4. 🧵 pencil strokes. My anger at these AI corporations' constant abuses and being invasive, which politicians are watching idly by, is growing.

I dream of a drawing pencil that will cause every AI training to implode. Everybody could scan it. But at the moment, you train a #LLM with it, it would eat the LLM's code. Forever. Another idea (you can take it!) for a zine: "The icy revenge of a pencil". 😈 Let's dream. 😉

  5. Authors, check your inboxes! If you're part of Anthropic's $1.5B AI piracy settlement, CNET has the lowdown on how to file your claims.

It's a brave new world where algorithms pay royalties. What's next, a Git merge conflict resolution fund for developers?

  6. "Any meaning given to this code is a subjective interpretation by the reader, which the author assures has never been their intent, and exists exclusively in the imagination of said reader."

"This code would've been much shorter had I had more time."

"This code has not been published, it's availability to you does not constitute in any way, shape, or form that this code has been published."

  7. Anthropic shelling out $1.5B to authors for using their books to train AI models! Even Steven Levy, the article's author, is coming around to the idea. So, is this the future of fair use, or just a really expensive apology?

  8. Judge Alsup’s ruling is historic—but far from ideal. It should recognise that all scraping of copyrighted content is a flagrant violation of creators' rights, regardless of how “transformative” the tech claims to be. grahamlovelace.substack.com/p/ #FairUse #IPrights #AuthorsRights #LLMs

  9. Important ASA statement on AI: asauthors.org.au/news/asa-resp

If you're an Australian author and your books have been used to train AI without your consent, please get in touch with the ASA, we are moving quickly on this and we need to know who is affected.

  10. @dangillmor @mmasnick I can see why authors would be alarmed, and I also understand the benefits of this AI tool. The future of AI in reading is complex, isn't it? While we treasure our works, technology races on. 😢 Let's all take a moment to really grasp the change without rushing to judgment. #AIandLiterature #AuthorsRights #FutureOfReading #fintoot

  11. @henry @clarkesworld at least here in #Germany #authorsrights (that's what we would talk about for the moral rights) are less about royalties than about deciding what can happen with your creation. That is, up to you to decide whether you want something go public or not, etc. You have less control once it's public, though. We have many borderline cases, much to find out, parts probably not ok. Don't forget that all IP rights only protect against certain actions (e.g. copying, distributing, ...)

  12. So, Twitter :twitter: decided to pull a DeviantArt move and change its Terms Of Services to include anything you post there on their AI dataset, to re-publish your art and benefit from it without your consent or compensation.

:twitter: TIME TO DELETE YOUR ART PORTFOLIO ON TWITTER :twitter:

I will only leave my contact information there, nothing else.
