@joannaholman
It’s a cutey, very similar to the electric carts Australia Post uses to deliver mail in some suburban areas (in others they use bicycles & ‘Shanks pony’ (feet)). -
got a reminder recently that i’m old enough to apply for automatic postal voting
also, got an email saying a parcel is in the mail — it was processed in sunshine west on 2 feb at 9:33 am … it has not budged since
should i register for online voting, or accept that #AustraliaPost is completely rooted, and continue to vote in person?

Post office lady just explained to me, as if I was an idiot, that because of the tariffs that Trump has put on Australian goods sold in China, Aust Post can no longer leave cards for an unsuccessful package delivery attempt.
Further, if I don't get a card, I should download the Aust Post app, so that I'll be able to tell when my package will be delivered. 🤯🤪I'd become used to the multiple emails from Aust Post, the fairly accurate tracking links, the SMSs on day of delivery, and the timely arrival of my local delivery person.
Now, you get NOTHING! 🤯😡
And apparently now, buying in Australia from China can't be tracked because of Trump???
I only did some enquiring after a weird AliExpress message about customs, and searching the tracking number showed the item had been sitting at the PO for days.

Today I posted a letter. It fell with a clunk into an empty Australia Post letter box.
Why did I send a letter in this day and age? It is because Medicare still uses cheques. This scheme is called the Pay Doctor Via Claimant (PDVC) scheme and works something like this:
1. Doctor provides a service and the patient pays for the service including the doctor's gap fee.
2. Medicare mails (!!!) a cheque (!!!!) written to the name of the doctor. They mail this cheque to the doctor's patient (!!!), not directly to the doctor.
3. The legislators who devised this scheme years ago hoped that the patient would be good enough to then put the cheque into a new envelope and post the cheque to the doctor or otherwise give it to them!!! They hoped that this person is not a young person who has never seen a cheque, has no idea what it is, and just bins another piece of paper without really thinking about it. The legislators of yore thought that patients have a life mercifully low in life admin, working (or looking for a job), free of family care responsibilities and loads of free time to have the spare capacity to remember to do Medicare's job free of charge and mail the cheque. I am guessing the legislators of yore subconsciously assumed that the wife would be living a life of leisure with plenty of spare time and energy to do this task.
4. The legislators of yesteryear thought that it is a great use of the time of the admin staff of doctor's to find a bank branch (!!!) and bank the cheque. They thought that it is a great use of the time of the admin staff to reconcile services provided to patients and Medicare cheques received, then follow up every patient who may have forgotten to forward the cheque. The historic legislators thought that this scheme will thwart the dastardly doctors who seek to rip off Medicare.Because of this convoluted scheme, Medicare has then had to create another scheme called the 90 Day Pay Doctor Scheme, where a doctor can apply for a cheque to be cancelled if it has not been sent to them by the patient etc. I kid you not: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/90-day-pay-doctor-cheque-scheme
Most Australians stopped using cheques years ago and are just waiting for the Australian government to discover that electronic banking is more efficient for everyone. The Australian federal government is hoping that by 30/6/2028 government services will no longer use cheques.
In 2025, the only one who really benefits from this scheme is probably Australia Post. I agree that retaining snail mail services has merits, even though less than 3% of letters are sent by individuals: https://theconversation.com/australia-post-wants-to-charge-more-for-stamps-next-year-heres-why-it-has-to-keep-letters-alive-244503

The package delivery is outsourced they in turn sub contract it to a migrant with a white van.
Their KPIs are humanly impossible to complete.
The purpose of this is to outsource entire Australia Post to a FedEx or another of the megacorps.

An example of enshittification and how badly Google has broken its core reason for existence, search: Google is using an LLM to "hallucinate" postcodes.
I dunno about other countries, but in Australia, if you get someone's postcode correct and a detail as simple as the recipient's name or nickname, a street name without the number, or the name of a home, then our postal service has a miraculously high success-rate for delivering a letter or parcel to the correct destination. You can write the wrong suburb or state in the address, but if you use the right the postcode, Australia Post delivers. But, without the correct postcode, you're up the creek without a paddle. The wrong postcode can lead to delayed delivery or can result in your mail getting the "Return to sender" treatment.
Google Search results _could_ index the database from Australia Post or pay a moderate commercial licensing fee to access their API. But, instead, Google's got an LLM to make-up postcodes. The results are near enough to appear convincing at first glance, such as using '3' for first digit of postcodes in Victoria. Then, they present it in the top position of Search results and have the cheek to use the Australia Post logo. In my experience, there appears to be a correlation between numerical similarity of Google's fictional postcodes and geographical proximity of suburbs. Google's "AI Overview" presents misleading nonsense instead of using traditional indexing or a trivial lookup table.

From Friday, August 29, parcels valued under $US800 ($1,230) imported into the US will attract tariffs or flat fees.
Australian businesses selling to American customers will be blocked from shipping to the US via Australia Post from today.
It will continue shipping letters and documents to the US, along with packages that are declared as gifts and are worth less than $US100 ($153).

🚨 "Chaotic" alert! Australia Post hits pause on shipping to the US as everyone loses their minds over tariffs, because who knew that international trade was complicated? 🌍📦 Meanwhile, we're left wondering if they used a Ouija board to divine this impending doom. 🔮

Does anyone know why #australiapost claim to take an extra week to redirect a package to my parcel locker, rather than deliver it to my door?
Someone ignorant of the process (i.e. me) might imagine taking it to a central place should be no slower, and would maybe be quicker.

Mail going out on a saturday? odd, or is it new directives and assignments being sent out to annoy a particular neighbour in the hood? or is it just general mail #AustraliaPost?

When you are about to click *Buy This Item* from an online store, are you fully prepared for the 5 automated emails you're going to get from their #ecommerce software plus another 4 from #AustraliaPost telling you the same information? Sheesh

My package from New Zealand arrived two days early! #AusPost man just knocked and said he delivered it first as it has to be refrigerated and its going to be a hot one again today.
I never have any problem with #AustraliaPost delivering to the door or parcels going astray.

Ah yes, #AustraliaPost, thanks for shipping my delivery from Queensland (already a precarious concept) all the way to the Delacombe hub, approximately 2.5km from my house, only to then turn around and re-route it back to Sunshine West, approximately 108km away. Efficiency.

When did Australia Post start giving hour-based parcel delivery estimates? That's cool, let's see if it's accurate [waits at window] lol

So bought a new #AppleWatch last weekend and used my existing one as a trade-in.
Posted the trade-in on Monday and Apple/company handling trade-ins have received it, assessed it as all good, and are issuing me a refund of that amount t against my purchase.
Meanwhile … #AustraliaPost are still showing the watch in transit in their tracking app … 🤷🏻♂️

Sadness: Australia Post wrecking a parcel in transit, slapping a sticker over the damage, and calling it done.

#Australia, anyone know how small parcels from China arrive in #Perth so quickly?
A small parcel from Thailand has sat immobile in Sydney awaiting clearance for the last 8 days.
This seems about normal for #AustraliaPost coming from the #EasternStates.
But order something from #China and wooosh it's here quick. -

Why to companies keep doing crap like this effort from #AustraliaPost ?
Why the short .st domain for the link? What's wrong with just using auspost.com.au which is a domain that you use for your public website?
Could it be that this is to just save 7 characters in the link? Because if so that's just stupid!

This week's scam du jour appears to be dodgy Australia Post SMS. It may feel obvious to you, but not everyone -- and everyone has their off days, too.
