Heatwaves, dangerous thunderstorms, Dangerous winds, Extreme Fire Danger for NSW, SA & Vic over next 36 hours
The majority of severe weather will result from the passage of a powerful front, however for South Australia and Victoria on Wednesday, a deepening offshore low has the potential to generate winds equal in strength to a category 2 tropical cyclone.
The low is likely to strengthen further on Wednesday as it passes through Bass Strait, with the central pressure dropping below 985hPa β the equivalent strength of a category 2 tropical cyclone
The unseasonable heat will combine with powerful winds, relatively low humidity, and rapidly drying soils to trigger the first extreme fire dangers of the season around Sydney, the Hunter, Illawarra and parts of the central west.
The risk is further exacerbated by dry lightning which could ignite multiple fires both on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.
