  13. ๐Ÿ‘‰Autistic Senses? Neurodivergent? Why Would ANY of Us Brave Overload City?

    #ActuallyAutistic #ADHD #Austim

Diving into a new thought: Why'd an autistic like me ever choose 'Overload City'? Sharing early musings and eager for your takes. ๐Ÿงต

Reminder: This is just my journey. Autistic experiences are as diverse as we are.

What's your take? Ever found unexpected calm in facing the chaos head-on? Share below. ๐Ÿ”„

๐Ÿ‘‰Autistic Senses? Neurodivergent? Why Would ANY of Us Brave Overload City?

Looking back, I spent a lifetime in angry chaos, desperate urgency... and chasing expert advice to end them both.

Why would an articulate *autistic* seek such a sensory and emotionally overwhelming world?

Largely, trying to distract myself from pain. At least, seems likely. Ya know, thrill-seeking?

And no expert advice, system, book, webinar, video, or relationship tone down the roar of chaos. Or tame the Pain Beast.

But diagnosis did open a door for me...

Safe introspection. I stopped looking for external approval. Not from family. Not from professionals.

I turned inward. That dark, musty closet I was scared to open in my earliest memories?

    I kicked that door in.

I stopped trying to medicate, ignore, educate... even meditate the pain away.

I turned and looked at it. Simply. Calmly. Without kicking my ass with self-loathing. Cuz diagnosis said, "This ain't your fault. Not all of it anyways."

I took little bird glances at first. once in a while. But it got easier.

Then, changing my world based on what I truly saw in myself. Without the agenda of a human or group to cloud the picture.

Tiny, tentative bird hops. But they add up over
    6 or so years.

    Now... I sleep well.

No drug or guru ever gave me that. No matter what they charged. And one guy literally wanted my life in payment...

I could go on and on about improvements that came from create a space for my autism. Reducing sensory input to levels and the like. God knows I have before. Links below.

But if you're autistic, know one, love one, teach some, probably even if you work with some...

'I sleep well" tells you everything you need to know.

Turns out all I had to do is listen to Krishnamurti at 13.

'Don't play follow-the-leader. They can't tell you who you are. Look inside. Question everyone. Like a rebel with a cause."

Take me, Mr. ND over here who is filled with sensory issues, including my Pulmonary Dr approved legs. Add on the fact that socks drive me crazy, and you have a recipe for shorts all year. But, that is like a small large part of its own things. Really, just boiling hot here. Donโ€™t wear a coat much either #austim #neurodivergent #neurodivergence #neurodiverse

Can we not drag self-diagnose Autistic under the bus? I don't get why some Autistic hates it as to get diagnose as Autistic, you had to assume you are (meaning you had to self-diagnose yourself) and it is a lengthy process to officially get it!

Also stop projecting the hate you got from neurotypicals to them, you are not helping yourself either! Sorry for this mini-rant, I'm just fed up of people policing others and as well as mocking them

  40. CW: Ableism \\ Gatekeeping Autism
