#AusAlert Interesting thing was boy-o turned his phone back on afterward and got the alert then, maybe 12 minutes past the alert time. So he didn't in fact avoid it by turning his phone off

its a really interesting choice to only send ausalert alerts to ios 26.
It seems that only 79% of phones have been updated to it, so 20% of Australian apple users WON'T get these alerts!
(I checked the ausalert site, and, yes, you need ios 26 to get these life saving alerts :( https://www.ausalert.gov.au/receiving-alert/compatible-mobile-devices )

If you have Android and use Nova Launcher you can create a shortcut to past AusAlert messages. Nova widget, Activity Shortcut, Wireless Emergency Alert. Works on Samsung and Pixel.

I did not get the Australian emergency alert thingo. Have reported. Think it’s cause my iphone is old but surely an emergency alert system that doesn’t go to older models is a f*ing stupid idea?? #AusAlert

Well the media & government say theses emergency messages can not be turned off, well under Android they can.
Setting page for turning off Wireless Emergency Alerts under Android 15.
This might be rather helpful to thoses that have to keep a consealed phone for protection due to DV etc.
