    The prompt is “River”

“East of the River Nile,” title track from #AugustusPablo’s 1977 LP

I couldn't always 'hear' #reggae; I liked its texture, but it all blended together in the background. Then, a few key practitioners opened my ears.

Augustus Pablo, the professional name adopted by Horace Swaby, was a record producer and label owner, among other things, but it is as a musician that I know him best. His instrument of choice? A child’s toy, the melodica, a keyboard operated as a wind instrument. As wielded by Augustus Pablo, its haunting sound nestled into #RootsReggae tracks or cloaked in #dub, imparts a spiritual feel.

East of the River Nile isn't my favorite Augustus Pablo album, but its title track, with its driving #BassLine and tasty #RAndB #guitar licks, truly feels like a narrative, a journey; Pablo takes us down the river and back in time, showing us hidden wonders and history untold. Plus, you can #skank to it.

Not the typical studio dub but reggae/dub style played live (quite rare). It’s a cover of the melodica player and dub producer August Pablo. You might check his (lots of) stuff out, if you’re looking for spiritual feeling:
