I bought this at the Gwen John exhibition in Cardiff, intrigued that an artist was writing to a dead artist about their lives. I had not heard of Celia Paul before (I’m not a great follower of modern art), and I’d disliked Margaret Forster’s novel about Gwen John’s life, so I wanted to try a different way of finding out more about her.
