  1. I was at a protest of one today in #PortlandMaine (not the first time). Unfortunately, I wasn't there on #January20 because I was getting over being sick, but there was a great turnout that day.

And it seems #AugustaMaine had a decent turnout today as well, so that's good.

But even though I was there by myself, most folks who saw me were supportive, a few thanked me, and only one #MAGA-type said that my protest was "Bullshit!" To which I replied, "You'll find out soon enough."

I don't mind being a protest of one, but next time, I plan on bringing some pepper spray just in case, and some cash for unhoused folks - who were way more supportive than some of the well-off passerbys.

  2. #DumpTrump’: More than 100 demonstrators gather in #AugustaMaine in national wave of protest
    By: AnnMarie Hilton - February 5, 2025 1:10 pm

"Demonstrators stood in the frigid cold outside the #MaineStateHouse on Wednesday in protest of the Trump administration and the involvement of unelected billionaire Elon Musk in federal policy.

"Dozens of signs with messages such as 'Dump Trump' and '#StopElonsCoup' filled the space between the State House and the Cross Building as 150 to 200 protestors chanted about protecting the U.S. Constitution, saving education — a nod to President Donald Trump’s efforts to disband the Department of Education — and stopping the rise of #fascism.

"The protest coincided with a national day of action against Trump, condemning the administration’s moves during his first few weeks in office. Thousands of protesters showed up in #RaleighNorthCarolina on Wednesday, while other demonstrations were held across the country.

"The Kennebec County Democratic Committee had initially helped promote the local rally but in a Facebook post Tuesday said it had pulled its permits with Capitol Police after the event was 'infiltrated by bad actors.'

"However, people like Louis Sigel of Gardiner still decided to show up because he said they shouldn’t be intimidated by people looking to upend the protest. Sigel, who was wearing an #ACLU shirt and holding a sign that said 'Move the embassy back to Tel Aviv,
said he contacted other progressives he knew and told them to come, regardless of the change. "
