An artist that did a record where I was assistant audio engineer wants to have the tracks re-mastered for a new release. That will be a nice (and slightly confusing) album credit if it happens. Looks like right now he's trying to raise the money for the re-mastering. I'd love to do it. The songs are amazing. The writer in that band is SUPER talented.

I started doing more audio mastering for hire these past few months. If you need any music sweetened, or even if you are a youtuber or video person, and want the audio tracks from your videos sweetened (more consisytent volume, and general overall EQ consistency, etc...) shoot me a DM and we can talk about it.

Welp, Rev3 of my mastering for M was accepted. I did almost nothing to it. I hit it with some tape compression and just barely scraped some peaks off with a hardware SSL Bus Compressor set at 2:1 with medium fast attack and release, WITH Sidechain engaged resulting in about 1-3 dB of Gain Reduction depending where you were in the song.

But if he's happy I'm happy.

My friend M seems to be very particular about this mastering. I did 2 more passes this AM using two different techniques. He did tell me, "I don't want it to sound any different than it already does," after the last attempt a few days ago, so I'm wondering if it just doesn't need a mastering (in his eyes)?

Just trim the ends, normalize it, and call it a day.

Trying to walk a fine line with a mastering I'm doing for a friend from NJ. He mixed the tune pretty compressed and loud already, and he doesn't want me to touch it too hard with compression. So I have to tickle it a bit.

He didn't like rev1, so I'll loosen up the compressors a bit, wave a magic wand, and see what he thinks.

As it is I'm using a multiband compressor, and I'm compressing at very low ratios like 1.7:1.

Go lighter.

I know there are a lot of factors like lufs but what instances would you want true peak to cap at -2db? I've always been under the impression that you want it as close to 0 as possible while still sounding good (-1 db for streaming)

What am I missing I see a lot artist sending me stuff that feels to quiet
