Our postdoc has spent his time, while the lab building has been closed, exploring some ideas around strong field physics. It is generally discussed in semi-classical terms, however he is considering a model using quantum "squeezed" light. Contributions also from a couple of my supervisors. It has been submitted for publication, with a link to the preprint below.

I vividly remember the always interested and kind discussions with Louis Brus on my 2D-OKE data during my PostDoc at Columbia University. Pierre Agostini and his team created trains of light pulses at 250 as.
Ferenc Krausz and his group developed techniques to select single 650 as pulses.

The goal of attosecond laser physics is to generate light pulses that are 10s to 100s of attoseconds long from laser light which has much longer wave period (e.g., infrared light lasers with wave periods of femtoseconds).
A secondary goal is to extract isolated attosecond pulses from the pulse trains.
These pulses can be used to provide images of processes inside atoms and molecules that occur at attosecond time scales.

They show that fast electron dynamics in bismuthumane (BiH) can be converted to #attosecond magnetism and predict a magnetic response at record speed. Such processes could be important for future memory storage devices.
