  1. Wild #AtmosphericalOptics during the Bochum (Germany) #sunset Thursday, ending in a convoluted #GreenFlash when the last segment of the Sun disappeared behind a low cloud bank - see bsky.app/profile/cosmos4u.bsky for five earlier timesteps, too.

  2. A lot of #AtmosphericalOptics seen from a ferry in the Baltic Sea between Lolland and Fehmarn Friday which was engulfed by fog while the Sun was high: a Brocken spectre, a glory and a fogbow! The spectre was particulary impressive to the eye as it was both colorful and 3D, a kind of tunnel vision effect.

  3. Four timesteps from the final 7 seconds before #Venus vanished behind a distant roof structure today: each image 1/3.2 second at f/2.8 and ISO 400 with maximum digital zoom yielding an equivalent focal length of about 3 meters, pictures in full resolution and cropped, no further processing. The spectral #dispersion is clearly visible; unfortunately Venus 'hit' the structure from the side, so cutting off the red and leaving only the green/blue upper part as in spaceweathergallery2.com/indiv didn't happen. #AtmosphericalOptics

  4. Apparently a fragmentary #SunPillar 20 minutes after sunset last evening from Bochum, Germany, with the Sun more than 3° below the horizon: didn't know that this #AtmosphericalOptics phenomenon - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_pi - was 'permitted' at such a late stage. But it was striking to the naked eye then and but one of several wild and intense #afterglow effects in a very complicated cloud environment. The pillar vanished only when the solar depression approached 4°.

  5. Another cool #Bochum #sunset show today, with three sunpots - groups 4087, 4090 and 4092 - visible and at times appearing double thanks to #AtmosphericalOptics ... and there was more coming! 1/2

  6. And the #Bochum #sunset show goes on ... today the #sunspot group (1)4087 was very prominent, and there was #AtmosphericalOptics galore: sometimes it stretched or duplicated the spot vertically while at other times a #GreenSegment 'lifted off' from the Sun's upper limb.
