The atlatl, a spear-throwing device, was used by prehistoric women to equalize labor while hunting, according to a recent study. The atlatl increased and equalized the velocity of projectiles launched by both genders, allowing more people to participate in hunting activities. The study also challenges gender stereotypes by suggesting women may have invented the atlatl.
