  1. @theowrites For #linux support, you could send them to an #endof10 place. They provide initial and ongoing Linux support if they want to get away from copilot.

#AtlasOS could also be a useful script to strip all the AI away, bit might require you to install it initially. atlasos.net/

  2. Wanted to quickly finish a game before work. But windows is doing windows things and performance is shit right now for whatever reason.
Doing what I should have done a while ago and running the #AtlasOS playbook on this install too...

  4. So after a painful several hours it turns out when my motherboard battery died it reset my TMP settings causing all sorts of hell for Windows. After doing that and getting a much newer build of Windows 11 ISO it appears the Atlas OS update worked.

Overall it’s much quieter experience. No bloat and I’m not seeing the ram issues I saw before. Best of all , CoPilot seems entirely disabled. Unfortunately it is still windows but with a lot less junk.

Once the Anti-Cheat measures are handled by Proton I’ll move over to Bazzite or Steam OS. For now this is enough of compromise.

  5. #AtlasOS 5.0 has released -- this is the ultimate "decrapify" #Windows tool for fresh installs (now supports 25H2). All the crap, gone. If you have to run Windows 11 anywhere, for any reason, this should be considered essential for your sanity. atlasos.net/

  6. Atlas-OS/Atlas: 🚀 Open and lightweight custom Windows builds, designed to optimize performance, privacy and usability. - #AtlasOS, or Atlas, is an open-source project (#MIT / #GPLv3)that enhances #Windows by conveniently applying privacy, usability, and performance optimizations, all while maintaining functionality and customizability.

Get Linux or waste time with this ? Intriguing.

  7. How I Windows

This post is primarily for me to describe what I do to keep some sanity in my Windows life, but I know people don’t like the ways I hack at Windows to remove this stuff, so I plan to go over other methods to obtain the same thing, so you can make an informed decision for yourself, if you care as much as me. Don’t feel like you have to do anything though. I’m mostly writing this so people know what’s out there. I’m a power user, so this is probably for power users, or people who can take care of their technology like I think I can.

    ### First, what I do

I use [Ame Wizard](ameliorated.io/), with a playbook of settings and things to remove from Windows. Currently, the two best user-facing playbooks are [Atlas OS](atlasos.net/) and [Revision](revi.cc). These will help you remove Copilot, along with Windows Defender and many other things, but the process isn’t the most user friendly. You have to use a lot of object navigation with NVDA to get through the amelioration, but it’s possible. I find these playbooks leave me with a low CPU usage but without disabling too many features. Revision is the best if you’re new and just don’t want too many issues after the fact. Ame themselves make a playbook, but IMPO unless you want to go back to 2004 it will leave you with too much missing. I need to try their new in-beta playbook though—it has a different name so maybe things have gotten better in that department.

    Secondly, after amelioration,
I may still need to use [Aurora](github.com/azurejoga/Aurora-Wi), [Winaero Tweaker](winaerotweaker.com/), or [Explorer Patcher](github.com/valinet/ExplorerPat) along with either the Revision tool, or the tweaks in the Atlas folder, but I’ve only ever used Explorer Patcher to fix up Explorer things after I ran Ame Wizard. Aurora is useful for a few different reasons, and it’s maintained by a blind person. It’s also pretty close to playbooks as well. The reason I don’t put it in alternatives is because I assume that people will look at this thing the same way they look at playbooks.

    ### What are some other options?

There are some other options you have, which might be less impactful in comparison but will get you close to the CPU improvements.

    * First is just adding exclusions to Defender—for example, App Data, Program Files, your audio games that Windows Defender flags as a virus but are not one, etc. I’ve heard that just adding Thunderbird’s app data folder to Defender will kill a lot of accessibility slowness with Thunderbird. So why not just add the whole fucking App Data folder to it. I think it’s crazy that people don’t see a problem with this state of affairs, but moving on…
    * The second option I think you have is [tricking Defender into disabling itself](github.com/es3n1n/no-defender). I have not tried this.
    * The third option you have is [completely removing Defender from a Windows ISO](github.com/soncms/StripWindows). This makes amelioration such a fun experience since you don’t have to go through disabling Windows Defender.
    * Lastly, you could try [tiny11 builder](github.com/ntdevlabs/tiny11bui), which will allow you to apply tiny11 tweaks to any ISO you download. I have not tried this.

I hope you enjoyed this article and learned something new about optimizing Windows for yourself. Maybe one day AI will make this article seem pointless and old. Nah.

  15. #Cybersecurity #Windows #AtlasOS #Videogames: "An operating system marketed to gamers disables a host of Windows security features enticing users with promises of a smooth gaming experience which they may not realize is opening them up to potential attack.

“This is horrible,” Alex Ionescu, an established Windows security expert, said in an online chat after Motherboard showed them the operating system, called AtlasOS.

AtlasOS describes itself as a “transparent and streamlined modification of Windows,” according to the project’s website. The idea is that a default installation of Windows may not provide a satisfactory or optimal level of performance for people who play video games. In response, AtlasOS aims to “maximize performance” and result in higher frame rates while gaming, according to the website."

  19. if any of yall are interested in debloated windows tiny11 is so much less shady than #atlasos, atlasos patches a live windows install using closed source software, tiny11 builder is written in batch so you can read what it does and only uses system utilities like dism and a single provided executable oscdimg.exe, which you could get from the windows adk directly from microsoft if you wanted to be 100% safe

ive been running tiny11 on my tablet for a few months and i cant say ive had any problems with it, its perfectly stable and even windows update works which i cant say about atlas

  21. Windows is slow, clunky and unreliable. Atlas brings life back to your Windows system, designed to maximize performance and minimize latency. You will experience a smoother and more responsive Windows, and higher framerates over using standard Windows.

It is an open source project which helps to achieve the following:
    * Better Performance: By Removing unnecessary components, disabling power-saving features, and optimizing services.
    * Reduced Latency: By fine-tuning processes, implementing an efficient power plan, and optimizing networking, you'll feel a difference.
    * Better Privacy: By eliminating Microsoft's notorious tracking, pre-installed apps, and bloatware, you can feel confident when using Atlas.

But there are some caveats as this is not the "full bloated" Windows OS, so it is also worth reading their Github project page to see what to expect.

Linus Tech Tips though does a video about it, and also mentions some tips around the hardware side as well.
