#NowPlaying a truly strange, brutal (but also sometimes gentle) record, the new LP 'Under a Gilded Sun' by Atlanta, Georgia's MALEVICH. They claim to make 'weird, heavy music for the end of the world', and.. indeed. This is like, blackened sludge? It's rad. Dissonant but coherent, chaotic but serene. So many textures and dynamics. Riffs, weirdness, everything. Maybe ffo Sumac, Sunrot, And They Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, etc. For those of you looking for cool black metal-adjacent stuff this year.

I mentioned Atlanta, Georgia's ROSE HOTEL in January this year and posted their video 'Drown' for that week's #MusicWomenWednesday (post linked above). But this week, I wanted to mention the full album that 'Drown' is from, 'A Pawn Surrender'. The original album is the first 11 songs here, they just did a deluxe release. I missed it when it came out last year and it took a couple months this year for me to really get into it, but I just kept going back to this. There are so many amazing, beautiful spots, little unique nuances.. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jordan Reynolds runs this whole thing, and she is MASSIVELY talented.
