  1. Mid-December and #aTinyGardenInNorthEastWales has pretty much seen the ravages of rain and high winds. But there are pockets of new growth (peony and some dwarf narcissi) and some stalwarts such as winter flowering pansies and hellebores treating us to some welcome flowers.

  2. Hellebore delight from #aTinyGardenInNorthEastWales It's that time of year when the hellebores provide a spectacular display of colours, shapes and freckles.

  3. A very pink atmospheric start to the day with a rising dragons breath creeping up the valley sides and the sheep crunch their way over a frost ridden field.

  8. Day 31 #JanuaryJoy

    Last day folks!
    Hostas
Grown for their wonderful foliage, I love the flowers. Quite small and delicate from palest lilac to deep purple. The bees love them too.

  9. Day 28 #JanuaryJoy

Todays joy is a sweet pea flower, but more the hoverflies dancing around it. We get loads of pollinators in the garden and I love hearing their gentle droning sounds. Very therapeutic and calming.

    Hellebores in my garden #aTinyGardenInNorthEastWales
I took this photo last March while having a wander in my back garden. At the time I had Covid and was looking for something to cheer myself up. The Hellebore flowers provided that cheer. Although I did manage to slice my finger open while cutting the flowers 🤦‍♀️

  11. Day 26 #JanuaryJoy

Today would have been my wonderful Mum's 93rd birthday. Her favourite flowers were roses.

This is a climber rose in #aTinyGardenInNorthEastWales called Paul's Himalayan Musk. It has a small pink flower and flowers profusely. It's also a thug and will spread like fire! We forgive its thugishness because the scent is absolutely beautiful, particularly on warm summer evenings.

  12. Days 24 and 25
    #JanuaryJoy

    Non-climbing clematis 'Blue Love'
Exactly as described, this clematis grows in Bush form and does not climb. The flowers are small with curling petals ad a gorgeous lilac blue.

    Dwarf Japanese Anemone

Bought this at a plant Hunter fair. It a dwarf version of the invasive, very tall Japanese anemone and with double petalled flowers.
I'm looking forward to seeing it grow and flower this summer.

  13. Day 23 #JanuaryJoy

    Daffodil time

Love daffodil time. We've planted so many in planters and in the garden in the ground and on our walls. They don't flower until late April, well after most in the area.

  14. #JanuaryJoy Day 22

    Antirrhinum
    Snapdragons

These and the nasturtiums were a massive hit last year. Continuous flowering all summer and well into November December, the hard frosts and snow finally did for them. Deadheading ensured the reflowering. This photo was taken Nov. 2022. Will definitely be growing these again.

  15. Day 21 #JanuaryJoy

    Clematis
Climbs up lines of string by the front door and soaks up the sun's heat as it sets behind the hills. I'm looking forward to the these light evenings and watching the sun setting.

  16. Woke up to a very sparkly frosty morning, which added a layer of ice to the snow already on the ground. Promises of a thaw over the next few days. Choir rehearsal this morning which is always joyous 😊

  17. Day 20 #JanuaryJoy

    Foxgloves

This lives in my front garden and was bought from a local nursery. It dies down in the winter and grows bigger every year. The bees love it.

  18. Day 19 #JanuaryJoy
    #aTinyGardenInNorthEastWales

    Sweet peas

Grown from seed and trained up a cane pyramid. They flower all summer by our front door and provide lots of colour and scent for everyone. Keep cutting the flowers and the plants send more flowers. Lots of colour and perfume for the house too.

    Astrantia

These flower for months on end. I have pink, red and creamy white colours. The flowers are so delicate and very attractive to pollinators especially hoverflies.

  20. Day 16 #JanuaryJoy

Snowdrops. We have singles and double varieties in our garden and they take over a bit of the garden every year. A joy to see every year.

    Days 14 and 15 - Fuschias

Fuschias seem to like our valley microclimate especially the hardy ones. Day 14 is a pot fuschia and 15 is planted in the bank at the back of the house.

  23. #JanuaryJoy

Happy to report all IT issues seem to have resolved themselves.
Day 10 - Red Valerian. I grew these from seed and it has now self seeded everywhere. Pollinators love it as do butterflies. In the centre of this pic is a Humming Bird Moth.
Day 11 - Viola 'Marina' Very hardy plant still flowering despite being battered by snow, frost, wind and rain this winter.

  24. An early morning #JanuaryJoy to lift the gloom of incessant rain!

Peony. One of my favourites. Covered in raindrops. Don't ask what it's called, forgotten in the mists of time!

We grow fennel in our veg garden, it grows very tall and has lots of fronds and seeds. We collect the seeds to eat. Shot in black and white to capture the structural beauty of the plant.
