Я большой фанат ноутбуков и любых схожих с ними устройств. В моей небольшой коллекции есть самые разные модели: с десктопными Pentium 4, с дискретными GPU от S3 Graphics и даже парочку «отвальных» ноутбуков с MXM-видеокартами. Однако одна модель особенно выделяется — ведь Compaq M300 был не только мощным и при этом компактным ноутбуком родом из 1999 года, но ещё и игровым — благодаря дискретной графике от ATi. After reading an reddit post in r/osdev about someone doing the hard work of researching and documenting the ATI Rage 128 GPU, I've initially "just" wanted to grab some cheap old hardware of ebay (or other places like that) to actually get a test-rig going for my osdevving project(s) I have lurking around.
But o well, now I myself fell into a rabbit hole of R400+ radeon GPU's x3 (because thats roughly the range I would like to be able to use sometime in the future).
The Problem? While AMD claims that they have "open" documentation, the truth is everything somehow expects you to know the previous generation, with some having physically no available documentation.
Like I've been reading the Linux kernel driver (drm/radeon) on the side to even get a grasp at what I need to search for, and even then I'm left with next to nothing... registers are specified at a certain location, just for the kernel driver to read from an entirely different location! And the best part? Even registers that are relevant to each other (thus should be in the same "block"), have entirely different values in the driver source, with no obvious reason why!
I certainly will write an whole blogpost (or more lol) about this, but it's staggering what amount of stuff you need to grind trough to even get something simple as "resetting the entire card" (which is one write to a control register!).
*sigh*

- RAM: 16MBWhat do you think? Is it overkill? I'm thinking about making something more toned down, but I dunno. I want something easy to write drivers for.

Ich denke, ich brauche ein neues Notebook. Darauf soll Linux, aber auch Windows (für Bildbearbeitung) laufen. Ich werde darauf nicht spielen. Ich habe gehört, dass für Linux ATI- statt Nvidia-Grafikkarten besser sind. Die meisten Notebooks sind aber mit Nvidia-GraKas. Tuxedo sieht gut aus, ist aber recht teuer.
Wie seht ihr das?

Between an Nvidia Riva TNT2 Pro AGP and an ATI Radeon LE (both 32MB), which would you say is better, or worse, and at what? Any recommendations?

Well my Windows XP build may have been delayed due to some capacitors on the motherboard needing to be replaced, but I can turn my attention to this beauty!
On the ATi Radeon X1950 Pro with 512mb memory, I decided to replace the thermal paste with fresh.
You have absolutely got to love the design on the GPU cover, they don't make them like this anymore!

@mahreview Everyone knows if you want a higher ranked webpage these days, they need to be #Oculus Go compatible. You can't reach your goals unless you're advertising features for a decade-old device which uses #phones that haven't been sold in half a decade. Very much screams "I AM HIP AND ON THE PULSE OF #TECHNOLOGY." Might as well throw a #netscape and #ATI logo down there at the bottom, too.

Many beeps later, it turned out the green pin on the GPU was accidentally bridged with the ground pin next to it. A relatively easy fix. Not pretty by any means, but I managed. Card back in the PC, flux and all, and it was stable as well as displaying the right colors! 🙂
It's a bit faster than the #ATI #Mach64 card I had in it before, but by no means super fast. A high quality Quake speed test gave around 72 FPS. I think it was in 640x480.
Also, I read that the ET6000 has issues with #ModeX - a tweaked version of the standard mode 0x13 that offered a slightly higher resolution of 320x240 pixels in 256 colors with some improvements to addressing, if I'm not mistaken. A few games used this, but also quite a lot of demos of the time.
Anyway, bottom line: purchased a €160 vintage graphics card for €25 and nearly shot myself in my foot repairing it! Everything worked out in the end though! 🙂

As a #blind #voter who encountered issues at the polls this #election cycle, this information would have helped me greatly. I went to #vote on the first day of #EarlyVoting
Our county uses #verity voting equipment. This includes an #ATI - #AudioTactileInterface. A #voter can listen to the ballot in any of the four supported languages and use a dial and button to make their selections.
Because of past experience with intrusive #ElectionWorkers, the first thing I do is turn off the screen. It didn't help this time.
My particular #ballot style had 72 items. I don't remember the number of the item I was on, (First Court of Appeals, Place 9) when one election worker told another that I would need help. I said aloud that I did not need help, and that, if I did, I could ask for help at that time. Someone said that the machine might "time out" (which is not true - this is a misunderstanding - when a voter is qualified, they get a code to enter into the machine. That code expires after 30 minutes. I'd already entered it). At that point, I very carefully completed my ballot, then took the time to ensure my selections for all ballot items were as I intended. It took me about an hour overall.
I tried to file an #ADA #complaint. I asked the election workers for the complaint form. They did not provide it, and did not believe they had such a thing (they are supposed to, I've served as an #ElectionJudge - there is a stack of them in the same folder as the required ADA information that is to be posted).
They gave me a phone number to call, and the person taking my report understood me to say the equipment had timed out, so the fix was to replace it.
The ADA complaint form is also on the website, where I did complete it. I wish I'd had a voter protection number to call.

Приветствую всех! Хоть я и обладаю целой коллекцией X86-совместимого железа, мне всегда были интересны компьютеры на базе других архитектур. Такие машины всегда были более редкими, более сложными в запуске, но и, конечно, более интересными. И так уж вышло, что начал я с PowerPC, а точнее — с компьютеров Apple на базе PowerPC G4. Итак, в данной статье поговорим о том, что обычно никогда не упоминают в статьях про такое железо: как его запустить тому, кто до этого никогда не имел с ним дела. Попутно узнаем, чем примечателен этот компьютер и на что он вообще способен. Как обычно, будет много интересного.

並推出了 #SLI 技術使其可在兩張卡串聯的方式下運作但真正第一張做到雙顯示晶片整合到同一張卡的產品
則是1999年的 ATI Rage Fury MAXX
串聯了兩顆 ATI Rage Pro 128 晶片
而串聯的技術正如其名
稱為 #MAXX
這個 MAXX 也被部分人認為是 ATi 以及後續 #AMD #CrossFire 技術的前身而 3dfx 則是到了 2000 年才推出Voodoo5 5500
然而技術環境劇烈改變
已然不是只依靠核心堆疊就能追上跟其他廠商效能的差異順帶一提
3dfx 後續被 #nvidia 收購
不過兩者的 SLI 技術
只有簡寫相同而已 -
