Brinsley has got a natty red waistcoat, helps him stand out from the crowd.
As Peter Powell intimated, Aswad have been around for years and years, they've been on the verge of the top 40 for about four years, and Pete had properly championed them in a way few Radio 1 DJs ever did.
Was this Tina Turner b-side representative of Aswad? Not really. Did it open the door to better things later in the year and make sure they're remembered? Too right.

"Don't Turn Around" is a #popularSong written by #AlbertHammond and #DianeWarren. It was originally recorded by American singer #TinaTurner and released as the #Bside to her 1986 #hitSingle "#TypicalMale". It has since been included on Turner's compilation album #TheCollectedRecordingsSixtiesToNineties (1994), as well as featuring in the Tina #musical since 2018. The song has been #covered by numerous artists, most notably by #LutherIngram in 1987, #Aswad in 1988.

Cover of an old Tina Turner b-side, with the band's reggae edges smoothed off for mass consumption. And it worked - to a point.
Gave them name recognition and an audience for when they played their own, superior, songs. But only to a point: by the end of the year, they're once again struggling to make the top 40.
Amongst acts *in the studio today*, Aswad win Top of the Hats.

This edition of #TOTP was made in a week when Television Centre was closed because they'd found asbestos fibres. No new studio performances could be made.
"Give a little love" - Aswad
The group show life in the south of France, as one does.
It's the follow-up to their Tina Turner cover "Don't turn around", and somewhat less well remembered.

Their debut? A decade into their career for their #TOTP debut!
Big stovepipe hats to keep their sandwiches in, Brinsley finds the camera like the seasoned professional he is.
The message is completely at odds with the sound - it's a kissoff to an ex-lover, the verses put on a brave face, the chorus reveals the truth of the emotional state.
This song was a ray of sunshine, a little bundle of infectious joy. Still is.
