Up until today I misunderstood the Roman Catholic dogma of the Assumption.
The Christian West (in general, as I understand it) believes that the Virgin was assumed into heaven without undergoing death. This is why the feast is called the Assumption — that she was bodily assumed like Enoch or Elijah.
The Christian East believes that she died, and that angels summoned the surviving apostles to Gethsemane for her funeral, except for St. Thomas, who was evangelizing in India. When he arrived late, he asked that her tomb be opened so that he could pay his respects to the body that had borne God. Upon opening the tomb, they found it empty: she had been raised as the firstfruits of what is promised to all of God’s faithful. This is why the feast is called the Dormition, or falling-asleep of the Virgin — because she actually died.
I had formerly believed that the dogma of the Assumption included as part of its dogmatic formula that she was assumed into heaven without death. This would be problematic for Byzantine Catholics, who hold to the Eastern understanding, and whose hymnography is very explicit in that regard. It would also make necessary that the Orthodox be regarded as heretics from a RC point of view, rather than just schismatics.
But I just finished skimming “Munificentissimus Deus” (Pope Pius XII, 1950), and it does not specify that assumption-without-death is part of the dogma as it was defined at Vatican I. The dogma simply states that her body was assumed into heaven. I can buy that. (Though I cannot buy the tie-in with the Immaculate Conception of Mary, which is not a dogma that Eastern theology ever found necessary, and indeed many find offensive.)
@rqm @TechpriestBaunach @patmulcahy Feel free to chime in with any corrections to my assumptions (pardon the pun).

The Garmin Forerunner 570 Warranty Sentient Failure
Reading Time: 2 minutesAround two months ago I decided to see if a Garmin mid range device would cure my desire to upgrade and try new devices so I went for the Garmin Forerunner 570. In many ways it didn’t deliver drastically more than the Garmin Instinct 2. I noticed that it was just as bad at sleep tracking. The key issue though, is that after a swim, and a ride one day I noticed that a plastic o-ring seemed to have made it’s way between the glass and the watch body.
I sent it via who I purchased it from under warranty and they said it would be sent to Garmin for repair. Within a week or two I got the “repaired unit” in a different box, with charger and more. I noticed one key problem. The watch strap felt too soft and malleable, as if it has been worn for seasons or even years, exposed to sweat, sea water and UV light. In essence, the strap felt worn.
If I had sent in a device that was one or two years old I’d expect that. If I had sent in my Garmin Instinct purchased years ago, and the strap felt like that, then I’d think “oh well”, but this warranty case is with a two month old device, and that worn strap feeling is a red flag.
My key concern, and I have no way of knowing if it is valid, or not, is that Garmin doesn’t give battery health. It only gives current state of charge.
To see whether my perception was correct, or not, I checked the strap from the Garmin Instinct 2 and that strap still feels solid, and resistant. This confirms my instinctive reaction.
It amuses me because when I saw the brand new box, with a new charger I thought, “They sent a new unit” but when I opened the box and felt the strap it felt too soft and pliable and I felt “I’ve been conned”. They got a two month old watch and I got a watch that feels old, due to the straps, but also due to the difference in serial numbers. The SN numbers are:
8N710xxxx and 8N708xxxx.
8N708xxxx had the issue.
It’s worth noting, after rational thought that although the strap for the new watch feels old and malleable the watch unit is younger by a considerable margin. My gut feeling was wrong. This also illustrates why the process of blogging is important. It is about differentiating between an emotional response and a rational one.
If and when I contact Garmin support I will get them to explain their warranty service more clearly. According to the serial number I now have a much newer unit. This means that the battery should be fresher, and healthier. It is possible that the first unit I had sat in a warehouse for a year or two before being sold. That could be why it had the physical issue.
I now have two USB-C Garmin chargers. Recently I had considered buying some. Now the need is gone.

Hype for the Future 167C: Cultural Blueprints of Saint James, Assumption, and Saint Martin Parishes
Overview Within the State of Louisiana, the Parishes of Saint James, Assumption, and Saint Martin are often associated with the southern portion of the State and, of course, are disproportionately known for French heritage relative to much of the nation as a whole. The parishes are in the heart of Cajun Country, often away from the Mississippi River plantation estates, with the community at Pierre Part (Assumption Parish) home to the greatest French percentage of any municipality outside […] -
I was raised on #hedonism and old habits die hard. Sometimes I indulge, though I know it’s a fool’s game. I have “junkie-reasoning” for that indulgence, which is that #abstinence robs us of the opportunity to parse the folly of pursuing #happiness through #pleasure.
It’s not water-tight, this “argument”, but it’s predicated on the #assumption that we can’t transform our #attachment to what we are not in #contact with.
Happy to discuss ~ eager, even: I could be wrong… it’s happened before!

A quotation from La Rochefoucauld
Our readiness to think ill of people without sufficiently examining the matter is based on laziness and pride. We want to find people guilty, we don’t want the bother of studying their crimes.

So tired of #people thinking that #disabled #people are just not trying hard enough to be able to do the thing. It doesn't matter if it's not being able to work, managing pain, or using a wheelchair. The #assumption always is you, the disabled person, aren't doing enough rather than that's just how #disability works sometimes and you've tried everything possible.

A quotation from Aldous Huxley
Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.

This is an odd article, based on a bizarre assumption. For some reason, the author seems to think that if someone shared a particular belief (the specific tenets of environmentalism that Thunberg touted) with her, they must obviously agree with and endorse all of her positions on other issues.
Why? There is no logical reason. Perhaps you agree with someone's position on universal basic income, but disagree with them on regulation of political donations. Or you endorse someone's promotion of protection of endangered species, but are opposed to their protest against resource development in some particular area.
There is no reason to say "You agree with X, therefore you must also agree with Y" here.

The Sun Is Slowly Waking Up NASA Warns That There May Be More Extreme Space Weather For Decades To Come
NASA Goddard A new NASA study suggests that solar activity will remain high or rise further in the coming decades, contradicting previous assumptions that the sun was quieting down and scientists "don't completely understand" why. NASA scientists are warning that the sun may be "waking up" from a brief period of relative inactivity, contradicting past assumptions about our home star. If true, this could mean that decades of potentially dangerous space weather are in store......Continue […]https://onlinemarketingscoops.com/2025/09/18/extreme-space-weather/

1/2 #15August or #Assumption was a magic time long before Christianism.
#Myths and #rituals talk about #nature and #biodiversity of ancient times. But with the #climateCrisis, we are confronted with phenomena of shifting #baselines and "planetary amnesia".How can we live with change when even traditions of the annual cycle no longer work? Can we redefine our #storytelling connections?

A quotation from Marcus Aurelius
Do not suppose that if you personally find that something is hard to achieve, it is therefore beyond human capacity; rather, if something is possible and appropriate for human beings, assume that it must also be within your own reach.

Good for you. Very nice.
I meant, of course, that original posters should put their videos where they are best seen.
Some may like putting their videos on several platforms.
I'd start putting them on Mastodon, which accepts very large videos, or Peertube.
Research yourself which platforms to use for your vids.
